Just in case anyone was like me and wanted to replace their mb quart discuss speakers with some HLCD speakers they will fit in the mako cans. My boat came with the light bar speaker combo and the MB quarts were loud but they were hard to hear at the handle wakeboarding. I replaced my amp as well. FYI these are wired in a series one horn and one driver on each channel of a 1600w max (275rms) amp. I know it's more than they are rated for but the gain is way down and they are not distorted at all

The KM6500.2 Compression driver is 1.7" in DIA. Thats comparable if not larger, then many 6.5" pro-axial HLCDs and even some 8" HLCDs on the market. It also has a 6dB boost jumper if you want more for wake-boarding.
275W rms is pushing really good. Just make sure the gain is not too high and the amp is set to high-pass and about 120-150 Hz.

That is correct, it is suggested to to move the jumper when the pair of extra 6.5 mids are used. With the extra mids, you are doubling the mid-bass surface area and output. The extra 6db from the horn will help maintain the balance. But, theres no reason you cant move it to the 6db position with just the base setup. Just know that it may be a little more bright near field or in the boat.
Before moving the jumper, I would investigate the amp settings. let me know what you find and we can help you tune them.

I've got these ran off a cheap Boss 1600.2 amp and they are clear at the end of the rope wakeboarding. I just thought I'd throw that out there. These speakers aren't cheap but compared to those with built in enclosures they are much cheaper (I already had 4 cans so it was perfect) If you have the chance I'd run a simple switch or fade so you can turn the tower speakers on (only) or fade to mostly tower (this is more complicated) because most of the time we are talking in the boat and it's a little harder to talk over the inboat speakers when the tower speakers are loud enough to be clear. I guess I could just turn the gain up on the amp but then again sometimes I want the inboat speakers to scream too... oh well
