I am looking into tower speakers for a new nautique. Just don't feel the included horn drivers are worth $2500/pair. What would you stereo gurus recommend for after market speakers? We surf 70% of the time, but also do some wake boarding. Will Rev-8/10s give good sound to surfers, or should I go with something like the exile surf speakers and hope they project far enough for wake boarders? Will also be adding an amp for the speakers (again, prep kit amp seems overpriced), so any recommendations on that are welcome as well.

The Wet Sounds Icon-8 is an 8" coaxial and is comparable to the exile "surf speaker" in size and power handling, yet has less hang height. They also have optional LED speaker rings and the clamps will allow for all the wires to pass through the clamp.
For a setup that offers both great sound quality for surfing and plenty of projection for boarding, I would suggest a single pair of Rev-10.

1 pair Rev10s on a clean true 400-500w ea will satisfy 95% of folks.... And look good doing it. Flip the board racks upside down and they tuck tight up into the corners like this out of the way to preclude any head bumping ....

I agree, if you want an 8-inch surf speaker, go with the Wetsounds Icon8. Two pair correctly powered will be not exactly be dominant but very effective at wake range. There are a couple of advantages that the Wetsounds Icon8 holds, such as it was designed from scratch and uses a midbass driver that is different from the one used in the Rev8. From a design standpoint, it's balanced.
Also, as stated above, weighing all options, I would elect to go with one pair of Wetsounds Rev10. It's still an HLCD but because of the larger 10-inch driver and larger pod, it is warmer and smoother than what most have come to expect from HLCDs.
Speakers, any speakers, get ragged sounding when over-driven. And it's a challenge to reach wake range while intelligible. With 400 watts per each Wetsounds Rev10 speaker, you are less likely to experience a strident speaker.

I agree with MLA here, go with an SD2. You may decide to get another pair of REV10s down the road and that way you won't need another amp. The SD2 will also be more efficient than the Syn4 (purely based on the technologies each use).2016 Super Air Nautique 230 (sold)
