Sub recommendation for 08 210

Cutting the hole was a little nerve racking, but like I said. Can always add a cooler door later.

Do you guys without the cooler access door still have the cooler in there? If not there is tonnes of room, and a real squeeze if you do. I'd love to see a ported box that fits in there along side the cooler.

I have a small soft sided cooler that I put in the floor/ ski locker. My space gets taken up by dry towels etc. I am almost convinced that I am going to cut the console out for a new JL Audio M10IB5 Sub that a friend is giving me next week.

So to re-cap....
Now you have a good woofer in bad enclosure and the compartment is not vented to the exterior. No chance of performing.
An infinite baffle woofer makes a big improvement mostly because it is direct-radiating.
The next upgrade would be to take the existing SS10 woofer and place it into a bass-reflex enclosure. The compartment would then have a vent cut into the pass-thru surface with an acoustically transparent grill added. This is a larger enclosure than the existing but still leaves considerable storage space.
The next upgrade would be bass-reflex 12", like a Wetsounds XS-12, with a vent. It's large but gives you the strongest option.

Okay, upon closer inspection I see from the photo you have a Wetsounds XS-10 and not an SS-10.
The XS10 is a high 'Q' woofer that is optimized for an infinite baffle application so it really should not be in that enclosure. That driver is better suited to install in the pass-thru surface with no enclosure beyond the compartment volume.

I used a piece of 3/4" advantech waterproof subfloor to reinforce the panel. I cut it out to fit the back of the panel, cut out for the woofer hole, applied substantial silicone, and through bolted underneath the upholstered panel which was removed and used c-clamps around the woofer hole. I let it cure for 48hrs and mounted the woofer using stainless machine screws. I pulled the factory carpet back and applied spray upholstery glue and reiinstalled the carpet. Very happy with the end result, but cutting that 10" hole was very, very hard emotionally.

Thanks for the tips. I now need to stay in town long enough to start working on getting everything rearranged and adjusted. The crazy thing is that I knew I should have done the upgrade work on my system myself.

One last question before I start cutting a big hole in the side of my console (pass/ walk thru wall) . Of these two sub which one would perform the best using my Arc Audio 805xdi amp. Again I have 400 watts from the xdi amp for dedicated sub.
Wetsounds XS10FA rated at 300 watts/ 600 peak @ 4 ohms or:
JL Audio M10IB5 rated at 250 watts/ 500 peak @ 4 ohms

I know the JL really performs well as I have heard it but the WS sub i have in incorrectly mounted and I have no idea of how it sounds when mounted correctly.

Well I finally had the time and mental conviction to cut a large hole out in the side of my port console!! Measured multiple times and only cut once. Making the perfect template for the sub was a critical step. As you can see in the photos I ended up using my existing WS XS10FA which now sounds amazing. I can actually feel it!! I have a few more modifications to do on/ behind the mounting wall as well as adding the carbon fiber vinyl material to the face of the console like RideButter and will post photos when I finish.
