    Lumitec Install Questions

I have a 2006 SANTE 220 I'm about to intall lumitec seablaze 3 and I was wonder about how you guys are wiring them.

Are you using the OEM 12volt accessory switch to control the lights?

I used a separate switch and placed it just under the dash in the drop out panel.

The Lumitec Seablaze 3 pulls 2.7 amps at 12V so it should work fine on any factory switch. The factory switches are likely to be rated at 15 amps, maybe 10 amps but still well in excess of 5.4 amps (I assume you are installing 2 of them?). Many of the LEDs on my boat are connected to factory switches but my underwater light is on a separate switch for convenience.

I'm only planning on putting the underwater lights on the factory 12 volt. I just saw the nautique PDF says its rated at 10 amps I want to make it look OEM. I'm not a big fan of the different color LEDS throughout. I prefer simple accent lighting. Because of the 220's layout I'm not sure its worth the work. Other than the speaker grills I feel most of the cupholders are too low to install Leds. I may put a few small strips in the stoarage compartmets but those I will run of the courtesy lights

I didn't like the different color lights in my boat either when I added LEDs, first I did everything in blue including rebuilding the factory lights with blue LEDs then I received a ticket for running blue lights which in California is reserved for Patrol boats. Then I converted everything to white. Beware, blue and white LEDs attract bugs. My morning routine after a night of partying includes a full interior wipedown to clean up all of the dead bugs (think bugzapper).

The cupholders and speaker rings add very little electrical load to the factory switches, most of mine are added to the factory lighting. I have my boat zoned so none of the glaring lights are visible from the driver on one switch and the interior lights like the cupholders which blind a driver at night are on a different switch. This way I can idle around at night and kind of see where I am going once my eyes adjust. If you can see the LEDs you will be driving completely blind.

            Updates

I installed the lumitecs. I tried them out last Saturday at the Fullmoon party. They are RAD.

The lights are installled using the OEM switch that controls the anchor lights. It took a while an several phone calls to find the OEM male plug for the harness but it was worth the wait.

Silver surf: adding lights to my boat this winter so I started looking at old post and came across yours. My question for you based on the picture from inside it looks like you just plugged into an existing wiring harness? my boat has a switch from the factory for underwater lights so I was assuming I would have to run the wire all the way back here but maybe not... Would be much easier if I have an existing wire at the back to plug into.

Yes, the female plug was there. I had to put a male plug on the lights
