Hello everyone!!!! Lake weather is kicking off and I've got a couple batteries that will not take a charge this year. I'm considering the AGM or a dry cell from Stinger. I do have 2 Arc 300.4 amps and a JL 1000.1 amp for the system. Every once in awhile we hang out and listen to the tunes tied up. Mostly it's listened to while surfing, boarding or pulling the kids. I love my tunes and want them to sound as good as possible. My question is do the more expensive batteries make the tunes any better or safer on the equipment? I don't run an isolator I just turn them both on and go. Always worried about one charging or discharging at different rates and messing them up.

Save your $, dry cell or AGM dont provide most of us with any measurable improvement especially when you doing what most would consider normal listening. Good ole standard mt 34 (interstate) or your brand equivalent will do exact what you need...assuming a couple means you are running 2. I run a similar set up and switch back and forth between the 2. Start with 2 good ones.
My guy dumbs it down for me, he says the deep cycle are for the trolling motor types or those putting a constant drain on the batteries...I am not a competition stereo guy as much as I love tunes.
AGM or dry cells have an advantage when they are in rough conditions, being banged around or are constantly tipped. Not typically what watersports boat see.
Anyway, I always thought you get what you pay for applies to all but colored top and gel batteries offer no real advantage for what we use the battery for.
For the record, this is just my opinion.
My advise would be buy local from someone who tells you what battery you should buy based on your usage, in the end, everyone wins. Then you have someone to bring it back to if you have a premature issue.2006 210 TE

"My question is do the more expensive batteries make the tunes any better or safer on the equipment?"
Nope
" Every once in awhile we hang out and listen to the tunes tied up. Mostly it's listened to while surfing, boarding or pulling the kids"
Based on this, I would go with a quality lead-acid marine deep-cycle. Largest you can fit, like a group-29, will offer the most Ah for the dollar.
"I don't run an isolator"
Instead of a $300 AGM, put the savings toward some cabling and a dual-battery switch.

If you have room to place them upright and check water I recommend good old flooded batteries. I switched to AGMs and didn't notice any advantages.
