    Speaker Size In Ski Nautique?

I recently bought a 1996 SN 176, and it still has original speakers in it. Im off at work now so i have no way of looking at them at the moment. Could somebody tell me a size so i can order some upgrades, and install once i get home?!

    Thanks in advance guys!

They should be 6.5" speakers. If you want to mount them like they did from the factory you need to get ones that have grills that come off and can be mounted behind the panel on the combing pad. They will sounds and look better if you mount them to the front but that will likely require you to modify the foam and vinyl on the combing pads to allow for a front mounted speaker. I am about to replace some worn vinyl on my combing pads and I am having the shop modify them so I can front mount my speakers. Let me know if this doesn't make sense and I can try to explain better.

This makes sense, thank you. And ok 6.5" it is then. I will play with them this weekend and see how it goes!

Hey man, sorry I think I might have given you some bad information. Pretty sure these are 6" speakers not 6.5". I'm really sorry and I hope you didn't already order your new speakers. The 6.5" ones might work but pretty sure the 6" are what was in there from the factory.

On second (or is it third by now) thought you might be fine. From Crutchfield:

Note: Kicker describes this model as a 6" speaker. Most manufacturers designate this same frame size as a 6-1/2" speaker. For simplicity's sake, we list it as a 6-1/2" speaker.

They were actually 6'' Clarions. And i didnt buy until i pulled the old ones out. I actually had two 6'' kickers i had brand new in my garage i was going to use to put in a box i built for my side by side but never did. So i only had to order two more!

Speaker industry standard sizing is 5.25" or 6.5". For the purpose of speaker replacements it's easiest to to search for 6.5" speakers. They measure the outer diameter of the mounting ring to determine size. These are also standard car door sized speakers. I have done several replacements and currently have about a dozen pairs of new or used speakers on my shelf. Anybody need speakers? I just top loaded the new Kicker KM6200 marine speakers into my 98 Ski Nautique, pretty happy with the result. If you don't want to run an amplifier the Polk db651 is also decent choice.

edit... I just noticed they list the Kicker KM6200 speakers at 6"... go figure? They measure all of 6.5". Why does the marine industry do things differently?

The Kicker marine speakers actually have right at a 7" OD, about the same as the Wet Sounds and JL.

Did you modify the combing pads so that the speakers sit inside the opening? I am about to get my combing pads re-skinned and I was thinking of making the openings bigger so that speakers mount directly to the front side of the Star Board and the cushion goes around them.

The upholstery shop did mine but I believe they will drop right in after you pull the PVC tube, netting, and piping. I also added foam baffles behind the speakers, it really helps the midbass.
