    Roswell 7.0 airborne disassembly

I didn't find anything online on disassembly of the Roswell 7.0 airborne and I had the horn tweeter on my port side speaker go out. I was able to get a replacement through my dealer under warranty and a buddy of mine who lives up that way picked it up for me. I just got it installed and thought I would post the process in case anyone is interested in taking theres apart. I did note that the led's are only in the landing strips on either side of the large clear window which has nothing in it. I might make use of this in the future by wiring in a red led to match the rest of the boat.

You will need to unplug the deutch connector and pull the 3 bolts that hold the speaker to the tower so you can set it on the bench for working. The speaker itself is held in from inside the enclosure with 6 phillips screws into the black plastic grill. The grill is attached to the aluminum trim ring with 4 phillips screws and the and the trim ring is held to housing with 2 exposed allen bolts on the top of the enclosure and 2 phillips screws inside the enclosure at the bottom. In order to get to those last 2 screws you will need to pull the 4 tiny allen screws that hold the back cover (you could probably leave the bottom 2 if you wanted) and the 6 tiny allen screws that hold the 2 halves together.

This is more easily done if you have the right sized allen socket but can be done with the typical allen keys if your patient. I found that a metric allen key worked well for breaking them loose but was a very tight fit so standard ones were better for removal afterwards (sorry don't remember the sizes).

Once you have the enclosure opened up you can use a long phillips screw driver to remove the 2 screws that hold the bottom of the aluminum trim ring in. This has to come out because there are braces in the enclosure that surround the magnet that prevent you from getting to at least the bottom screw on the speaker. If you are replacing the speaker the wire connectors were soldered to the tabs on mine so you either need to desolder them or cut them off and put new connectors on for the new speaker. I chose to do the latter and they just the traditional one big one little female spade connectors which I had on hand. The wires were really tight in mine to start with but they were routed under clips on the outside of the led landing strips so I was able to simple re-route the wire to have enough length. The "horn" of grille just slides in and out of the opening in the speaker, the compression driver is mounted to the back of the midrange and fires through the center of it. One thing to note is that on the replacement the horn was mounted 180 degrees different than the original so when you are adding the new terminals to the connectors make sure they are wired correctly.

Assembly is the reverse of disassembly and when I fired it up everything sounded great on that side. In the weeks it took to get the replacement the horn on the other one has died as well, if I replace it then perhaps that is an opportunity to take pictures this time.
