    JL M10IB5-SG-TB Infinite bafflr

I am going to install the infinite baffle 10" sub in the existing location Nautique placed the Polk 10". Has anyone tried this, any lessons learned? Hoping for an improvement. Thanks

Installed the JL 250w 10" IB sub last year and couldn't be happier. I had a local shop install and tweak out the sound for me. Doesn't seem to be any challenges to the install though. You will love the difference in sound that it makes. Get that baby in and crank up the sub output. Some pretty serious bump coming from a free air sub. I was so happy with it that I went ahead and upgraded the interior speakers to JL's.

I am very happy to read this. I'm putting one in my '13 210 next week. One piece of advice the shop doing my install was to put a re informant ring around the inside of the opening to limit the fiberglass flex.

Did you use the sub channel from the stock Polk 5000.5 amp?

Please send details on the ring that you are going to have installed. I was going to use the stock polk 500.5 amp as well.

Anyone know how the JL compares to the Wetsounds IB sub?

I asked the same and it was suggested that I go with the JL.

can you guys enlarge the hole some to fit a 12" in there? The Fi IB3 is the biggest heaviest IB sub i could find.... I crammed a 15" in the OEM G location.

I'll ask details about the reinforcement ring when they do the install and report back. We are waiting in the Polk level controller to come in so we can get everything done at once.

I talked to the shop today and he said they use a 3/4" thick by 1" wide resin coated birch trim ring mounted along the inside of the panel. This gives the sub some rigidity so it can flex as well as supports the fiberglass to keep from cracking.

I did exactly the same thing with the 10IB3 I installed, it was absolutely needed in my case. I also added some sound deadening to the hull in the area behind the cutout and to the panel itself, particularly the plastic panel the kill switch is mounted to. It resonated a lot more than it did with the factory sub. I also added some foam baffles behind the coaxial speakers to help a little bit with isolation and taken altogether the sound is much better. I went with the IB3 over the IB5 because I was concerned I wouldn't have enough power to drive the IB5 with the factory amplifier. I still don't feel like I have enough with the IB3 which makes me wish I had just used the IB5 in the first place although I haven't heard that setup at all so I am hoping that someone will chime in as well if they have tried it with the factory amp.

They are telling me the power from the 5000.5 sub channel will be fine for the IB5. I am hoping the level controller is either in or comes in tomorrow so I can get everything done Friday and I can let you guys know.

Yes, they used the sub output channel on the Polk amp. Let me know about the trim ring and where to get one. This is something I am concerned with now that you brought up the cracking situation.

It's something they are fabricating, not something to buy off the shelf. We have changed direction after digging into things a little more. They are trying to stop all the rattling and stop the panel from flexing. The thought is if we can do these two things the Polk sub will actually sound real good. May still put the JL sub in but will listen to it before spending the $300.
