    G series in-boat 6.5" speakers INFO NEEDED

Has anyone pulled their 6.5 inboat speakers on their G23 to measure the depth available behind the stock Polk 650s?

I am interested in replacing them with the JL MM series 6.5" (2.95" install depth) or perhaps the Polk MM651 (2 5/8" install depth).

I am interested in replacing all 6 and keeping the stock nautique grills.

    Thanks.

Replaced mine with the same size JLs. No problem. Now, re-installing the grille covers, that is a PITA. Stupid design.

        AND....there was my next question.

The he boat is at our lake house 200 miles away, so I want to be sure to take the tools and supplies necessary for the job. Any hints on the removal & reinstall process?

Go-Go Gadget Arms........Theres about a dozen tabs on each cover. You have to find them, bend them somewhat straight and the grill comes right off. Reverse to install, but its 2x harder.

whoever came up with the grill cover idea for the G's should be taken out into the parking lot and dealt with lol. definitely not someone versed in boat audio.

Also, why make it so small 8"s wont fit? FWIW, the 6.75" Kickers will fit in the OEM locations.

After fighting with those covers, I've considered puling the screens off the plastic gray covers...they will separate... and just use 2 cable fasteners on the ends to secure it back. likely would sound better without the screen blocking 50% of the speaker.

Agreed! Who thought of such a stupid design? I ended up leaving the tabs on one side and applying small velcro strips on two other sides and grills stay in place yet can be removed.
