I had a similar experience with the Lewisville store, but am ultimately happy they made me spend the extra money. I was just put in an awkward position with my wife who agreed to spend X and I spent Y and of course she thought that was always my plan. I talked with two salesmen and that ended up being where the confusion happened. Lesson learned in my part, they did good work and I'm happy with it but next time I will make sure we are perfectly clear on the direction before the work starts. Mine wasn't a lot of money either, but after spending the money on a new boat any amount extra spent on the stereo was a big beef with the wife.

      Look at the flipside.
The OP asserted that it was an 'easy swap' and that no adapting plate fabrication was required. So let's say that the company yields to that just to get him done and out the door and make him happy over the money. Now we would see the company getting flamed for charging $80 with four nasty mounting holes exposed left by the previous 1.8 DIN unit....with photos included. That, IMO, would be a far worse criticism.
The need for the plate was obvious once the old HU was removed. That much you couldn't prove to the OP UNTIL the HU was out.
The Chris guy dropped the ball on communicating in advance on the extra $10 or $20 of materials. Odin has already admitted as much.
They never held the boat hostage and the OP entered into an agreement for every dime in advance, with the exception of those extra $10 or $20 of materials.
