I don't want to get in between you and Odin, but I would check in with him one more time. Sorry.

Question regarding JL I/B sub: I have my whole system, including sub , still powered off of the factory equipped Polk amps (I think model 500.4). If I replace the polk 10" sub with a JL audio I/B sub and maintain the same amps, will it still improve the sound quality/Bass? Also, is it a must to use the trim ring in order to give the sub magnet proper clearance?
          Thanks in advance

Does your 216v have the sub next to the drivers seat? Ours did not have a sub there, it was in the observer storage area.

Either way, the trim ring in my case was installed to reduce the flex in the fiberglass panel. When the sub extruded it fleshed the entire panel making it impossible for the sub to reseat properly for the next extrusion. It really sounded terrible. In fact, this was noticed with the Polk sub in place. If you simply hold the panel in place with your hands the sound quality improves drastically.

My sub is to the right back corner of the drivers seat.
With the stock amp, do you think it would ultimately sound better than the Polk? I read all your posts about it and I am still wondering if it would ultimately give me a better/stronger bass sound with stock amp setup.

Absolutely. I am using the stock Polk amp and even went with the higher end IB JL sub rated for more power. Of course it could use more power but the cleanness and the level is much better. The best mod was the sound dampening to the entire panel. It stopped all the rattles too.

+1, although I used the lower end JL sub and I still think it could use more power. Make or get a split ring to put behind the driver mounting flange and get some sound deadening to put on the hull and the side panel. On mine the worst vibration was from the plastic panel under the helm. A bit of sound deadening and a makeshift gasket where it contacts the helm helps out. Also be prepared to drill some new mounting holes as the JL has 6 screws and the Polk 8, unless you have a right angle drill it probably means pulling the seat.
