2010 Clarion Head unit cutting in and out

    Hey all,

The Clarion head unit in my 2010 SAN210 is possessed... It will power on without an issue, and some days it will stay on for an hour without a problem. Then other days, as soon as the boat starts pulling a rider and hits a couple bumps it will turn off completely. Sometimes it can be turned right back on, other times it won't come on at all. When sitting still, it will usually stay on without issue. I've checked all the connections on the amps as well as the head unit, all are tight. The fuses never trip.

Does this seem like there is a short inside the head unit itself? Anything else that I should be checking?

I am not sure how the factory systems are wired but do you know if there are any inline fuses in a fuse holder? Or is everything run through breakers? In my boat I kept having intermittent issues where my amps would lose power. I chased it for a while and then finally figured out it was my fuse holder had gotten loose inside and it no longer held the fuse tight enough. So when I would hit waves sometimes the fuse would lose contact and cause me to lose power to my amps. Once I realized the problem I replaced it with a better quality barrel type fuse holder and the problem was solved. You might have a faulty fuse holder or breaker. Also might want to check that all connections at the battery/perko switch are tight.

Thanks, I will definitely check for those. I forgot to mention that the amps do seem to power off as well, so that would make sense. Although I think they are controlled by the head unit? I'm not a stereo tech by any means, just trying to save some $$ if I can track down and fix the issue myself.

I believe it was actually a short in one of the amps or head unit itself, I had it narrowed down to that but then ended up trading the boat in at the dealer. They tested it and couldn't replicate the issue (of course). Sorry I can't be of more help to you!
