Small time Sub/amp advice

I need some help putting a small setup together ('96 supersport). The more I read the more confused I get. All topics are for systems 10x the power of what I'm shooting for.
I don't need a big system at all - no tower speakers for now. I just want to have something you can hear while under way.
Right now I've got 4 Polk db651's running off the deck (whoohoo). I want to put the sub under the kick panel in a sealed box roughly 1 cubic foot. That's all there is room for.
Might stick a small 6" speaker in the vicinity of the sub just for the driver

The alpine 10" type R is what I had in mind.
I intended on the kicker ZXM700.5 for power.

-With the sub rated for 300w and the amp slightly less at 210w, will this work? (Both rated 4 ohm)
-if I power the in boat speakers with the other 4 channels will there be an improvement in volume and/or quality? Is there any point to this one?
-if I'm off track is there a better or cheaper way to go?
Like I said, just want to hear things when moving and have some better quality when chilling.

The sub box enclosure for that sub is spec'd to be 4.85 cu/ft!!??

The 5-Channel amp is a great choice for the setup you describe above. If you don't want to go way crazy a good choice. That Kicker 700.5 is a great amp. There will be a huge difference in sound when going from just deck output to 70w from the Kicker. For your Sub... I don't think 4.85 ft^3 is the spec... more like 1 ft^3 you describe above. That sub would work great. Although, I recommend getting a marine sub, then no worries about moisture ruining the nice sub. Bottom line... you are going in the right direction.

I've got a similar set up in my ski 206, and it sounds very nice for an in boat set up.

Here is what I've got:

Fusion 5 channel non marine amp- 3 years and no issues
Alpine type R 10" sub- non marine mounted in a sealed custom epoxied enclosure with spray on bed liner on the outside. (less than 1cuft)
4 Exile 6.5" in boat speakers (they replaced the original polks- one was distorting badly)
I recently added an exile pre amp zone controller with aux in for ease of use with my ipod/phone

Its plenty loud in the boat and has pretty nice sq.

I was going for the same thing; I went with a Kenwood 10" open air that came with a 200w amp. If I had to do it over I would just plan on building a box instead of thinking open air would work with no box.

Double check how much space you have and what kind of box you can fit there and buy your speaker based on that. A 10" with 200w did really add bass to my 4-6" speakers; not going to be heard by the skier, but easy to hear for the passengers.

I would like to make a couple of suggestions if I may. 1) go with a 2 ohm SCV or 4 ohm DVC sub and milk the available 420W rms from that amp's sub chnl. 2) If you are married to that amp because you already own one, look into the new KXM800.5 Class-D marine 5 chnl. Half the size, WAY more efficient and still offers 400W rms on the sub chnl to a 2 ohm sub. A kicker CompS122 or a CompD124 are perfect matches for those amps and will work well in a 1.0 ft3 range sealed enclosure.

Thanks for all the advice. I went ahead and stuck with the original plan. We'll see how it goes.
MLA's tips definately sound like an improvement, but I can't justify the extra $$$ with this laundry list of repairs I have on every machine I own.....
An exhaust manifold and rear diff just let go on the truck in the last week.

1 cubic foot is enough for a sealed Alpine Type R 12", a Wetsounds XS12, or a Polk db 1240. I have run all 3 different setups and currently have a Polk in my slalom boat being powered by about 300 watts and it sounds very good in the small cockpit with closed bow.
