Intermittent FM static with Clarion CMD5

I am having an issue with intermittent static in the radio reception on my CMD5 radio but it doesnt happen all the time. The radio could be playing super clear for 30 minutes straight and then all of a sudden, completely static on every station. It is definitely not due to the particular radio stations I am using because all local stations will go to complete static and then later on, come back to completely clear again.
I have tied in the FM antenna to the rub rail, also replaced the FM antenna with two different styles, but still no luck. None of that effected it at all. I am wondering if the tuner in the actual radio is bad.
Anyone else have this issue before? Is this something that can be repaired? I realize the easy thing to do is buy a new Clarion radio but since they dont make the CMD5 anymore, i would have to buy one of the newer models which most don't seem to work with my wired remote in the dash.

Hello again. I am having the same issue in my 216V. I was doing to pull the head unit and see if the antenna had a lose connection to the head unit but it sounds like you have already done that.

I replaced the Clarion CMD5 today and the problem went away. Bad head unit, likely the tuner.
