I'm posting this up as I've been asked a lot for photos and such of the Addictions mounted on the boat. Typically is "How big?" They are big! I've cracked my head a couple of times, and now I leave the bimini up. The trade off? Loud and clear! They really are amazing. On my 02 Team, I had the Boss 530's with a set os B50's? as well. These really are above that. On the swimdeck, the quality suffers a little, but they really get clearer the further back you go. I had thought about running a set of 61/2's as well on the tower, for clairity while ideling, (Turn up the 6-1/2's - Addictions turned down) but they just aren't needed. I was worried about the size too, but i think it's worth it. Duane is also a heck of a guy to work with and is more than happy to answer any of your questions.
The details: I'm using an Orion 8004 amp. Duane had said that I could go to 400 watts per speaker. I went with a 4 channel amp, so I wouldn't lose left and right and I have each speaker bridged to get the 400.
Before the amp, I took Grant's suggestion of using a PPI EQ. This allows me to tune the speakers and gives me seperate volume control from the rest of the speakers in the boat. I really like this! Hit the source button on the EQ and just the tower speakers are off. Sweet!
Running the speaker wire: I ran 12awg, which is really thick! Probably over kill, but hey you do it once - I ran the wire through the bottom back leg of the tower and then back out and in to get around the front hinge. From there I drilled two holes in the top of the tower as access holes, and then drilled into the front and back bars. Then a hole next to the speakers. 3/8 gromments were used and 3/4" plastic caps, snapped in and siliconed up top.
One other thing - tuning really needs to be done OUTSIDE of your sub-division. The cops are called pretty quickly.
Hope this helps! Any questions let me know -
Ken
