Does anyone have a preference between the hard drive vs. flash?? A friend told me to go with flash, that it was much more durable than the hard drive. Also, how is the Nano, I thought I heard that it isn't all it is cracked up to be??

I have been using the JBL marine decks for a number of years... they are sweet because you can get a decent wired indash remote. I took the clock out of my dash and used it for the remote for the stereo. The deck also has Aux inputs on it. So I went to radio shack a bought a RCA to 2.5mm cable and plugged it in and wired it to my dash area. You can get real fancy and put radioshack indash 2.5mm jack input and wire it that way. I choose not to. I have the cable just long enough that it does not hang to far down or people could snag it with their feet or gear.
I plug my iPod in and leave it on my dash... throw my shirt over it so the sun doesnt beat on it. The iPod itself is in a rubber sleeve so it doesnt slide around the dash.

Since the iPod gets boring.. I have mounted a Sirius Receiver to the left of the steering wheel. Actually fits pretty nice and works super. I unplug the iPod, throw it in my bag.. and take the 2.5mm cable and plug it into the my Sirius Receiver. When I pull the boat out... I take the Sirius Receiver out (leave the mount on the dash and power) and put it in my car when we tow the boat home.

Cheapest setup out there and the most flexible! The JBL decks are really nice. Screw all the high priced Clarion decks. Check out JBL and you won't be sorry.

Hopefully some day I will get some pictures up of my setup.

Hey Diga, I ended up giving my sandisk to my wife and got myself an ipod today, so we will see how that works in the boat!

If you are running a Clarion xmd3 it has an adjustment for aux-in sensitivity. If you want to raise the volume of the mp3 itself you can do that with a little shareware tool called mp3trim. Beware about raising vol levels of mp3s, it introduces distortion.

Mike, I changed it to the high setting and it sounds really good, it was set on medium but just wasn't high enough. When I set it on high it made it about equal with the tuner and cd volume. Thanks for the info!!

I need to hookup my Nano to my boat as well. I really just want to use the $10 RCA cable but do not have the AUX input on my deck. I have heard some fo the FM transmitters are crap, and then you still have to use your 12V plug, even if it is a good one. Harman Kardon has a really cool interface system that I am thinking about. One thing about the HK is that you have a dash display, which is cool, then you have a remote little dome shaped controller that works like the IPOD. My 99 came with the old CC Cruise with the control gauge mounted on the gunnel of all places. Therefore there is a 1 inch hole drilled through the gunnel where the gauge used to be. I gave the guy who bought my old boat the cruise system as i added a Wakeboard Pro. I need to cover up that hole somehow..... and need to hook up the IPOD. Any other ideas ?

you might want to look into the std size Clarions that have an AUX in for your iPod rca connection, plus that would work with the older-style, smaller Clarion remote that would fit or cover your 1" hole. I think you can still score that remote off Overtons or Ebay. Just want to make sure it's compatible with whatever head unit you get.

I originally wanted to go down the road of controlling & powering my ipod via the head unit, but it got WAY cost prohibitive plus I enjoy sitting my pod right next to the windshield on the right (throttle hand) and I can drop the volume quickly via the pod scrollwheel when my rider falls. It's a good setup and pretty much as low-core an ipod connection as you can have, w/out sacrificing sound quality.

Yeah, I have a depthfinder already. I have a pretty expensive Alpine deck that I really don't want to replace... as there is no way I would get the money out of it due to the no MP3 compatibility. Although, I could sell the Alpine changer I have too, as the Ipod has rendered that less than desirable for me as well. I really want to just use the cable, as I don't care about controlling it from the head unit.

How about a fuel flow guage? I have thought of adding one to my boat so i know exactly how much fuel I have left. I know they are on ebay every now and then, and you can get it from boatUS. I think they run like $300.

The only questions is wheter the fuel that supplies the fuel contrl cell is a recirculating system or in other words, is there a supply and return line from the FCC to the tank in addition to the supply and return to the engine? If there is only a supply line from the tank to the FCC, then it would work, if not, I don't think it would work.
