Just did a clean install in my 98 Ski Nautique. I didn't go for a showy look, just wanted to have some quality sound with some deep base.
Most of the posts I've read here are about installing in Air Nautiques where there is a lot more space than a Ski, so I thought I'd share what I did for anyone interested.
I put 1 twelve inch sub in a sealed enclosure under the bow in front of the drivers consol. Those of you with a Ski will know that this part is elevated compared to the port side, I managed to find a simple sub box that would fit in this space. I used a couple simple 'L' brackets to attach it to the floor to keep it in place. I mounted a 4 channel Clarion amp on the left side of the panel that separates the drivers foot well from the ski locker. It was a nice mount, and has easy access for adjusting gains and crossovers, but some care is needed to not place wet skis or vest beside the amp. I'm running a pair of 6 inchers off the front channel and a single, bridged sub off the rear channel.
I replaced the 2 front factory speakers with 6 inch clarions and maintained the original grills by just mounting the speakers behind. Not too flashy but it sounds great and doesn't stand out to potential theives. I've powered the system by purchasing a deep cycle battery that I mounted in the bow on the centerline. It's connected to the alternator via an electronic isolator so I can run the stereo all day and not worry about draining the starting battery. Had the first water test today and all worked great. Despite the engine noise at speed, the sub comes through to give the subtle bass that I was looking for. No tower speakers to hear while riding, that was not my goal, just a full sounding system to be heard occasionally and usually when parked at the dock or on the beach.
Will post some photos if anyone is interested in seeing.
Cheers,
Pete
