Question for experienced Stereo guys/girls.

Last year i decided on the skylon defcon 5's for the 216. I purchased the required Kicker sx600.2 and everything sounds great, however, on heavy bass songs i do see the battery gauge dip down on those big hits. Would one of those large capacitors help? Would it really be worth it? There pretty cheap and install looks easy.

Thoughts and suggestions welcome, sounds great just something i noticed. I only run the 4 stock 216 speakers and the kicker sx600.2 powering the defcom 5's.

Are you noticing the dip when the boat is running or when it is off? I'm not a big fan of the capacitors and don't think they're really worth the money. If the dip is occuring with the boat on, you may need to beef up the charging system (i.e. get an alternator with more output). If it is when the boat is off, you may want to add an additional battery; many choose to use the bluetops due to their output and design.

Its when the boat is running, i cant 'hear' any chance i can just see it on the voltage gauge. It dips down to like 12volts from the regular 14v,

I run a 2 farad cap and twin bateries which solved that problem . the second batt made the biggest change in voltage problems. my boat has three ams and stays at around 13.5 volts. before i made the change i was breaking alternator belts.

Yeah i would luv a second battery but i cant figure out where i would put it

I have a 2001 216 air nautique. The tray is up front for one battery but forure a second one wouldnt fit up there. Would the cap help out at all?

Should i worry about this?

Any suggested locations for the second battery would be appreciated.

i had 97 sport and placed the bat in front of the driver kick panel but that boat didnt have a heater in the way which made it opossible i mounted the batt switch to the kick pannel im not sure about the 216

a capp will help keep constant voltage but wont cure your problem

Not sure if there's room in a 216, but I have mine laying on its side under the rear seat on my 210. That's the nice thing about Optimas. They can be used in any position.

I say get a heavier duty alternator. Also, then if you ever wanted to add more electronic stuff, you've got the power... But the alt. will cost a lot more.

I had a 1988 Nissan 300zx and when my subs would hit hard I could see the meter take a pretty big hit. It never really gave me any trouble. I just couldn't run the stereo turned up very loud for more than a few min when the car was turned off or the batt. would go dead. Unless you are noticing some other problems with your electronics it might be ok to leave it how it is.

Grant is running 4 optima blue tops in his 216. I think they are under the bow seat cushions?
