    JL 770 in a g23

Has anyone put the Jl 770s in a g and how did they get them to fit? I have M650s now and was wondering if it is worth swapping them? I have 2 12s 1 in stock location as IB setup and an cvx in a pro box so bass is really good I took the garbage can door of yet II am getting a vent made for either under the flip upset or the spot that is angled next to it. I have rev 10s up top with a rockford t1000ab running all highs and a rockford running lows.

To have musical bass with quality tonal construction your midbass drivers MUST keep pace with the subs. So you are on the right track in considering larger cockpit coaxials. Plus the JL M770s have exceptional midbass.
I'm sure it's not an easy task and will require some custom work.
But I have other concerns with your system description. Are the two 12-inch subs used in an IB set-up a true infinite baffle driver? Is the ProBox bass-reflex? Sounds like phase soup. You might be able to see a major performance increase by simplifying the sub portion a bit with a single location and a single loading method. This will also help your coaxials integrate with the bass.

Chris- near 99% positive you won't get them to fit in the factory holes, there isn't much clearance around the 6.5s. Terrible design on the OEM pods.

Several higher end installers fabricate add on pods that will accept as big as 8"s in the same locations, fiberglass construction wrapped in matching vinyl. Looks A+ OEM. Fairly pricey... 75-125$ ea x 6 or I remember correctly. If you spend that much... You gotta go with the JL 8.8s!

1 in stock location, the other is ported I had just the ported for while the added a 12 to stock location I tried each by themselves then together and did not feel like they were phasing each other out.

            Chris,
"phasing each other out" sounds like a description of hard cancellation. I'm not suggesting anything that extreme. Both ported and sealed/IB have different phase rotations. And a direct radiating woofer in the coaming has a different phase response than a woofer concealed within & vented from a compartment. So the issue is really one that sounds as if each woofer is at a profoundly different distance from the listener. It's less of an amplitude issue and more of a muddiness issue. However, if it sounds good to you with the type of music that you listen to, then trust your own ears.

How much does it cost for pods like that?

                    Chris,

Its worth every penny IMO. Increasing the size brightens, balances and compliments the tower and subs making everything come together. 6.5s just can't keep up with aftermarket tower and sub upgrades. I have had pods built for two G's and seems like a huge pain in the ###. The bow pair are simlar in shape, three in the main cockpit are similar and the one behind the driver seat is unique so imagine fiberglassing all the different ones. Not worth it for an installer unless you pay a high price or have them do many other things. Also, you can have them made so that they screw into the OEM holes for the 6.5s so if you upgrade boats you can remove the pods and easily put the 6.5s back in and move on. Legend marine audio in Houston did my first pair as shown above and Hydrotunes in Austin did my second. Legend does some badass custom work and I have seen more pods come out of hydrotunes because Austin is a different market with more higher end stereo upgrades. Both put out some of the best work I have seen.
