I have a 2003 ski 206 limited and am looking to get more volume from my stereo should I just put in new speakers or do I need a booster or what.
I would really appreciate some suggestions. Thanks
I have a 03 206 limited as well. The fellas from my local audio shop stated that the c.d. deck isn't ideal to power the stock six speakers (which I assume you have), so I am in the process of adding an amp. Also I am having a cnc machinist make some tower speaker boxes so I don't have to spend a grand on the retail versions...I can you show you the end result if you like.
The factory head unit is only powerful enough to listen to at idle speed or stationary. If you want good sound while cruising, you must add an amp. How many speakers are you powering?
MinnesotaNautique, Yes, I have the 6 speakers. I guess I will check out the amps. Where are you having them put the amp on your boat? And yes I would like to see your results! Thanks Alot
The standard place seems to be under the oberserver seat (make sure it's atleast a couple inches from the floor in case you take some water over the bow)...be careful mounting it on the left interior wall as the screws could penetrate the hull!
The XMD1 Clarion is not that great of a deck. The newer XMD3 is better. The Clarion is not sufficient to power any of the speakers in your boat to audible volumes while underway. You need to add an amp that has a high pass crossover in it, and adding a pre-am eq with high output voltage would help also. The pre-amp circuitry in the Clarion is also weak and needs to be boosted. I install Audio Control 4.1s all the time in Nautiques with this issue. The unit allows for an aux input also such as an ipod.
