Mounting options for volume controls or Wetsounds 420 for G series boats

Please forgive if this has been covered in another thread. I am in the process of installing some tower speakers and want a separate control. I have had a Wetsounds 420 on my last 3 boats, so it is the frontrunner, but I am not necessarily attached to it. It has been a great unit for me.

The problem is that I was wondering if there is a way to mount it to the left of the driver, but without that awkward 'Let's just nail it to the bottom of the dash' look to it. There is actually a perfect spot to put it just to the left of the steering wheel, but the way that Nautique molded the fiberglass and the cheap trim piece, it wouldn't quite fit correctly. Look at the pics. I have a pic of the way the dash looks now, and with the trim piece removed. The 420, (and a ZLD and pretty well all other options) are 1/2 DIN, which means that they are 7 inches wide. The trim piece is a sweet 6.5 inches across or thereabouts. So I would have to mount it and have it sort of invade the fiberglass area, which would look a little ghetto, I think. Or at a minimum, I would like someone else to carve up their dash so I could see it before I did it.

If someone has other options that are not 7 inches wide, I am all ears. I considered simple knobs, but I would also like some sort of 'Master volume' for quick decrease in sound throughout, without having to reach for the display.

The area behind the dash is free and clear, so that is not a problem.

Any ideas on a mounting solution for an EQ?

I was able to do this with my Mastercraft, so just carving a hole in the dash does not scare me much. Having the EQ lower makes it a kneebanger for tall geeks like me, so that is also part of my motivation.

What about 3 JL Audio volume control knobs. I have a digital processor instead of a 420 so the question would be could those knobs plug into a 420. Trying to post a pic but its not working

Nauty, thanks for that idea! Then I have a master control for the interior and sub, and a separate knob for the tower speakers. I notice that the unit has 2 RCA outputs, which would mean I could send one to interior speaker amp and another to the subwoofer amp.

Why do you have 3 knobs? it would seem painful to turn up the interior and turn up the sub separately, is that what you do?

Edit: I bet the third knob is a 'Bass Boost' knob that goes straight to the amp, so the main volume controls the bass output except for those rare occasions when you want to thump a little louder.

My digital processor is a arc ps8 so without these knobs I would have to plug in my laptop to adjust the output. All three knobs run volume to tower, interior, and subs independently. Tuning is easier and I mainly adjust the subs and tower based on my situation. I'm pushing 4k watts to the subs so it's nice to easily adjust according to the music being played. The interior are 808's and I don't adjust at all and the tower gets adjusted when around other boats/kids or when I want to be considerate to others

I think it's much easier to have all 3 independent and would not want my interior and subs on the same control

If you don't need all of the features of an EQ I just got the Roswell dual zone volume control installed last week and tried it out on Sunday and it worked great. I am now running it in addition to the Wetsounds bluetooth volume control and the deck is now completely redundant except for the fact that I am still using Linc to raise and lower the volume slightly as I speed up and slow down which I could entirely do without since it still isn't enough and there apps for my phone that can do the same thing if I want.

With the dual zone control I have my inboats, sub and lower tower speakers on the inner knob and the tower hlcd's on the outer knob. It works great, I can quickly turn down both if I need to and its a lot faster than the Wetsounds bluetooth control but I still love that for the bluetooth convenience as well as the ability to quickly pause and restart music as well as skip songs (which comes in really handy if a song comes on that is not safe for the audience on board or someone tries to sneak in a country song).

It might be nice to have a sub level control as well, and my amp has that feature built in if only they shipped the boat with the controller. Should be able to find one that works but its pretty low priority for me, but being a low priority it would be cool for it to be separate.

I was a bit nervous about noise with all these things going on and now having a 6 channel RCA (17' was perfect for me, its about 2-3 feet longer than it needed to be but it worked out great, I am using the Stinger SI4617) strung across the boat, but knock on wood it hasn't introduced any new noise.

The Roswell unit would work also. Thanks for that suggestion, jonsquatch. And BTW, that wins my username award, since I am sort of a sasquatch fan.

Nauti, with 4000 watts alone to the subs, I would consider that separate knob as well! I may end up experimenting with this one.

The beauty would be that I could remove the trim piece, drill 3 holes in the fiberglass and use it for a few trips like that, then if I hate it, put the trim piece back on and drill just 2 or 1 hole if that seems optimal for my particular usage. Nobody would know.

For that spot left of the wheel, I would seriously look at the wet sounds bullet under dash mount. Super clean look about it.

I recently ordered the Roswell Dual volume control through Nautique parts and they were also able to get me the Sub control knob. If you look in the thread I like to below, Jeff posted a picture of the dual volume control and if you look under the helm, there is another knob for the sub volume. The sub control is sent with a data cable, so I do not know if it will work with the factory Polk gear or if that will only work with Roswell amps. If it only works with Roswell gear, I may have to upgrade the sub amp
