Is the phone connected to the head unit by an aux cable? If so you might want to turn the volume on the phone down and the head unit up. Keep in mind the iphone is a type of line driver and has an output signal that can be amplified through your system.

Get the phone(s) as far away from the HU as possible. My HU is in the glove box, phone in there will create interference.

I wonder if the static is only when the phone has bluetooth turned on?

have to check to see if the phone has blue tooth turn on,, the boat stereo itself does not have blue tooth....the phones are not hook up or plugged in, just in pockets or cup holder... thanks for everyone's feedback ..

I think this is mainly an AT&T issue, and I know this sounds crazy, but make a "pocket" out of aluminum foil - use a decent amount so it's durable, and put the phone in that pocket before you put it in the glovebox.
BTW - I easily added bluetooth to my stock stereo using this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
