USB2 Connection

I have a 2015 G23.

I have read a couple posts from 2012 that say the helm USB connection (USB2) is only for LINC updates and won't play music when connected to iPhone. Is this really the case? I have plugged in my phone to the USB connection next to the head unit and it works great but I can't get it to work on the USB2 connection even when I plug it in and choose USB2 on mode on the head unit. It just says no device connected.

Any suggestions?

Yep, unless it has changed since my 2012 you're right, I don't think it is ideal, I know I'd rather have my phone/ipod close rather than in the glove box; but that USB plug is exclusively for Linc updates- its there rather than hidden somewhere deep so that dealers have access without taking apart the dash. Makes it really easy for the dealer to add updates, (especially since they have to hold down buttons during start up and during updates), but frustrating to all owners that see a USB right there that they can't use.
