Do I really need a second battery . I want to install pioneer cd 50w x4 , 4 marine speakers ( no amp on these) and a 10 or 12 sub with no more than 350 watt amp going to 1 sub. If I do get 2nd battery and put it in the bow, Do I just splice into positive cable before 1st batt and run to new batt positive ? And for the neg. do I slice into first batt. neg. and run to 2nd batt. neg. ? I'm not running anything else extra on 1982 ski nautique 2001.( all stock ) Thanks ! Dan

It will ultimately depend on how long you're out on the water running the audio system without the boat running. If you get into running some amps, subwoofers, etc., you might find yourself with a dead battery after a fully day out and not running much.
I would not suggest splicing anything related to your battery cables, however. If you want the peace of mind of the second battery then look into a battery selector switch. Not overly expensive (maybe $30 and up), and will let you select between two batteries - cleanly - that way you can run your audio system off of one, then start the boat up with the other. Fishing boats that run trolling motors, fish-finders, etc. have been doing this for years, and you should be able to find one of these at a marine store, online, or even a decent auto parts store. The only other thing you'll need is an extra set of battery cables to make the connection. -
