    Clarion XMD1

We have a 2002 SAN that has the original Clarion XMD1 head unit, it works great but want to upgrade to one that has Bluetooth, MP3,iPod ect. Does anyone know of another head unit that would fit in the original spot without cutting up the boat? We looked at the Clarion M303 but I believe it's smaller.

    Thanks

The only thing smaller about the M303 and any other unit, is the face, The M303 has the same 2 x 7 in cutout. However, due to the larger face of the xmd series, we have seen some sloppy holes cut. This may require a trim plate for a better fit. Even then, a custom trim plate is nice as it will cover the old mounting screw holes left behind by the xdm.

Not a CC, but was an xmd originally.

Clarion CDM8? looks like the same size and for $262 on amazon with the XM receiver. If/when the CMD3 quits in my boat (or sooner) this is what I am going with. looks like it supports Pandora and the like too.

      Hope this helps,

      Tim

The CMD series is not as wide as the XMD series, so you would still have the old screw holes exposed. Also, if you look at the pic above, you see how new head-unit and trim plate are off set. This is how the xmd series is. the chassis of the CMD is centered with the face, so take that into account.

MLA, along the same lines as the OP's question, would love to update from my original XMD3, needing a trim plate or not is fine for me either way, big question is the helm located dash remote (factory original oval shaped M301RC ?), if that needs to be replaced is there anything out there that could be a direct replacement, IE shape, size, mounting holes, etc.??
My use is almost 100% IPod/IPhone via aux cable. With current setup the device changes/shuffles music and the dash remote adjusts volume. Would be great if the remote could also control device.

            Thanks

That will let you change from a oval remote to a circular one.

I'm waiting on the new wet sounds head unit/remote, since it lets you control multiple zones' volume with the remote.

Yes, you will have to update the remotes as those original oval remotes are not compatible with any of the new generation Clarion head-units.

I have a 2002 SAN also and put a fusion UD650 in it. Fusion has the adapter plate for the clarion. Give them a call!
