sub box ideas for 196 SN closed bow.

Hi all, looking to see anyone who has added a sub to a closed bow SN w/o giving up much storage. Open to ideas for single 10" or 12". Pics would be great.

I have a 1999 SN and was hoping to put something on the hump behind the drives foot board. I currently have an alpine receiver only putting out 50w RMS to 4 Polk db651s. So I have considered a little 4 channel amp for those too. Also, has anyone enclosed their 6.5" speakers as well or is that a waste of time?

I am obviously not looking to go crazy with the stereo or compromise much space, just looking to round out what I have. And keep it a ski boat.

Typically in a closed bow boat a far forward 10-inch subwoofer performs like a 12-inch. To offer an exact position recommendation would require a good photo of the bow area.
A good single-chassis 5 or 6 channel amplifier should do the trick.
Enclosing the coaxials? It depends. The enclosure/pod needs to be rigid and of a certain displacement. Sometimes the enclosure improves power handling but kills any bass that you previously had. If front to rear acoustic isolation is needed sometimes a partition is the better solution.

Thanks for the reply David. I don't have any good photos of the bow storage area handy.. I'll get one next time I am working on boat. I am really looking to find the guys that have already done this on a TSC closed bow... like I said, there is an unusual hump that is flat on top behind the kick board. that might leave enough space to mount a box on top of.

I have done a few car stereo installs in my early days but really am trying not to get carried away in my boat. I picked up an Alpine CDE153bt of display/floor model for under $100 then two sets of db651s for like $150ish just to do a bit better than the old stock clarion tape deck from 1999. Then after being pretty impressed with the inexpensive upgrade I figured for just a little more I could get a sub and maybe amp the 6.5" speakers.

I don't want to loose much space and have much invested in this ski boat. My boat goes out in morning and after dinner.

I will say some of the G23 installs on here are nice!

You're thinking in terms of fitment and installation ease while I'm thinking in terms of position and orientation for what works acoustically the best.
Usually fitment and installation ease wins out.
