How hard is it to adjust the gains and crossovers? our boat comes in thursday and unfortunately I know of absolutely no serious marine audio shops anywhere near L.A.

Shouldn't need to be a marine audio shop...typically any stereo/car audio place should be capable of tuning a system...others may disagree, but I just asked some friends who was the best car stereo place in town and found my guys that way.

The more you know about audio the more factors you tend to take into consideration and the more complex the process. The less you know about audio the more one tends to simplify the process. Since I'm sure JL Audio already has a prescription, have the dealer obtain that document, at minimum check the settings, and make any necessary changes. If the dealer isn't particularly confident then perhaps you can obtain the info and do it yourself.

In an enclosed cabin of a car, truck or SUV, you must deal with a very high level of reflected radiation (due to the fact that you have six sides folded around you and your speakers), and in addition to the incidental radiation, including significant standing waves. In a boat, you are dealing almost exclusively with incidental radiation and that radiation flash dissipates in the open air. Unfortunately, many shops tune a boat like a car, and the boat never realizes the full potential of its equipment.

Wetsounds will soon be delivering DSP amplifiers. That means all settings are made by the factory (at Wetsounds before shipping) for a particular boat, model and system. The boat dealer, nor consumer, can make changes. This should be a very effective way to ensure quality control. A limited amount of Wetsounds dealers will be franchised to sell and service the DSP amplifiers. There may be some early bumps in the road, but I really like the approach.

Sadly this has been an issue for years (wiring quality, installation quality, etc). My 03 was delivered with the plastic shipping covers still on the tweeters of the coax speakers. I had to remove the speakers and pull the covers off of each one. Plus the head unit wiring and grounding was wrong. And this was a stock system without tower speakers.
