    New Kenwood Head Unit Questions

So I recently upgraded the stereo in my 2008 SANTE 210 from the factory system and am overall, very pleased. Among other things, I replaced the stock Clarion CMD5 head unit and stock wired remote with a Kenwood KMR700U head unit and Kenwood wired remote. I do have a couple questions though to put finishing touches on this setup.

    1) The Kenwood head unit has an orange illumination wire that didn't appear to have an obvious connection from the wires remaining after removing the Clarion head unit. Can anyone advise if/what wire this orange illumi wire should be connected? It appears there are some mixed messages when I've searched illumination wires on google. Also, if it is not necessary, will the head unit light up at night and still be visible or will it effectively think it's daylight all the time even when I'm running nav lights?

    2) The old Clarion head unit did not have specific date/time sensitive info to maintain via some sort of continuous power. The new Kenwood unit has a date, time, radio pre-sets as well as display settings and equalizer settings that reset each time the Perko switch is turned off. This isn't that big of a deal, but each time I turn the boat on, I have to reset the sound settings (highs, mids sub), display contrast (so text is easily visible) and date and time. Is there anything here I should consider in order to allow this head unit to maintain it's settings? I'd be game to wire directly to a battery, but would like some reassurance I'm not setting myself up for other problems.

    3) With the addition of a new amp pushing a new sub, the cooler door is rattling more than I ever noticed before. Any suggestions on how to address the rattle ? Also, any suggestions on how or where to get the cooler door vented? A generic recommendation (anyone who is good with a certain tool could do it) or a specific recommendation (send it to this person) would be appreciated. FYI - Earmark did a few back in the day, but doesn't do them anymore as a standalone project...

thanks again, this site is a wealth of good info and good people.

    Bump -

    1) Any thoughts on the illumi wire ? It doesn't appear the screen lights up when i turn on the nav lights currently. I suspect this would change if the illumi wire is connected, but not sure what wire this should be connected to. Any ideas? Boat is a 2008 SANTE 210

    2 + 3) got these handled.

its either going to be +12V or ground (im 98% sure it will be +12V), get a clip lead and try it out.
