Here is my second "suckgate". In his attempt to be co-captain, my son (19) has taken a lot of the responsibilities on the boat and is doing a fine job with a few rookie mistakes along the way. After a fun day out on the water he wanted to take a last set. I had him attach the gate. He gets up surfing and the wave goes from crisp curl to wash, I immediately knew what happened. He didn't fully depress one of the suction cups. Looks like our bungee kayak tether didn't work either and to the bottom of the lake went the suckgate!

I took this opportunity to modify the second gate a bit. 1. I used 3/4 chrome engine spacers instead of washers. Doing this allowed me to spread the two side pieces out further to accommodate easier depressing of the suction cups. 2. I used smaller diameter bolts for a cleaner look. 3. I used smaller paddle screws so it wouldn't bulge out the 1/2 HDPE. 4. Spent 30 mins learning how to tie 550 paracord for a stronger tether. All in all I feel these mods will help in ease of use.

I have already tested out my old suckgate and it works awesome. I finished my ballast system upgrade thanks to wakemakers, 3 reversible pumps filling 2 -750's sacs in the v drive lockers, a 580 sac in the belly. Fills in about 6 mins!! couldn't be happier with the speed and ease of use. I'm still playing around with bow weight to elongate the wave. I'll get some action pics this weekend, I'm leaving tomorrow for four days on the river!!

I'm having great results with this version on a bunch of boats. Nothing to rust and all plastic exterior.

[QUOTE=Brian Sullivan;n495321]Here's mine I copied one of the first ones but didn't like the straight 90 degree angle felt like it wasn't efficient and just dragged too much so I made an adjustable one and copied Malibu's surf gate size. Im running it on a 2001 SAN so we need more help surfing the port side than the starboard side which is where the adjustment comes in. As for the angle to the side of the boat it can be adjusted between 10-40 degrees the sweet spot for the port side seems to be right in the middle around 20-25 degrees. I attached pictures with some of the dimensions if anyone wanted them.

        Brian,
I'm wondering if you have been able to find a sweet spot on that angle. I have a 50% complete gate at the house and it would be super easy to complete on a fixed angle. Also, any shots of the port? This is my wave on a 99 SSN with 650 locker / 750 port by engine @10.5. What ballast do you have and any wave pics?

I would say when we use it for surfing the port side we are more like a 30-35 degrees from the side of the boat. My one goofy rider likes less angle but I think its just because you really don't need much to get a good wave surfing starboard. I have 750s in the rear and i try to match it up front between locker 400ish and under front seats 300 and even on top of the seats 400. I find it surfs the best with more weight up front but its hard in these little boats surfing next to the g23's

Where are you guys mounting your shapers? I have a 2007 SAN and I built one to the specs and it is steep but I can't get length out of it. I am running 750 in each v-drive 800 in the locker and 400 in the bow at 10.7 any help would be awesome

We have found slower to be better with the shaper, we typically go at the minimum speed to keep it clean, typically 9.5. This is on a 2004 SANTE 210. Biggest problem we typically have is just getting the boat heavy enough.

Wow, I don't think my boat even cleans up till 10.2 I think the steps in the hull make it hard to surf the 2007 and above I might have to try to make one similar to the NSS but find a way to mount it without drilling holes

I have a 2005 SANTE 210. For ballast I put a 750 up on the bow seat, in each v-drive locker I fill the 750s about 3/4 full, my belly hard tank also full. I mount my shapper on the starboard side, right behind where my hull angles in (results in about a 30 degree angle). I'm 210 lbs and cant go any faster than 9.5 (can't keep up to the boat), my kids go 9.5 to 10 mph and they can go all day long and can get about 6 feet back from the boat with enough push to keep up. I haven't tried going above 10.2 mph but after reading this I will see how it works.

I don't have very much experience with that hull but it sounds like you have a little to much weight up front, I could be wrong but I would try 400 in the bow, belly full, rears full that should make it steeper so you can get more push and ride a little faster.

I have run the same setup and found the pocket to be very close to the transom. Basically, the most push ends up being just off of the swim platform. More weight and listing help, but it seems like this hull only has solid push close to the boat.

The board makes a huge difference in push as well. With a smaller board its a much smaller sweet spot. Tried a ronix Koal thruster this weekend and had my foot on the brakes the whole time, then switched back to my machine and I had to keep pumping to stay in it. The ronix board was much significantly bigger, but it was just a much faster shape as well. Theres a balance to be made between weight placement, speed, and board for certain.

Nice I def want to try that koal thruster but I heard people keep on breaking them, currently I have the hyperlite shim and I'm a bigger guy 230lbs and I constantly have to pump to stay in it. Also I'm in fl and the lakes in my area are shallow usually we are in about 12ft of water which prob don't help.

We are also in Orlando. Tried the shim this past weekend, it was faster than the machine we had been riding, but not nearly as quick as the thruster. Performance had both for demo. Think they had the 5'7 one

Alright I'm finally going to have some skin in this game. I'm going to try it out on Sunday and let you guys know what happens. I'm going to run it at 90 degrees off of the back angled area of my 99 SSN and try to shape the port side wave with 650 in the belly and 750 in the port side engine compartment. With that combo and no gate.. It struggles to keep a 200 pound guy pushed.

I have a question about the push issue...could that be fixed by going to a different board? Just wondering, I only have one board, its one of the original skim style Phase 5 boards that isn't very large, but had to drop another $500-600 bucks on something what wont "help" not being able to keep up.
