I am in the process of rewiring and remounting my amps under the port side compartment however what I thought would be the easiest part is now the most difficult. What type and size of fastener/ screw is best to use? I was trying to use a #8 1" Stainless but the backing material on the hull is proving to be a PITA. My amps are mounted on a 1/2" piece of starboard and it appears the backing on the hull allows for another 1/2" of material to screw into. It also seems that there is possibly a hardened plate of some type behind the fiberglass to keep you from drilling through the side of the boat. If anyone has any advise on what Nautique does in this area during the layup process it would a great bit of information to have.........

I would not test this theory. I would use a #10 x 3/4 and not worry about going deeper than the amp board.

That amp rack on the wall is a PITA to screw into. It glassed and gel'd over. I used self tapping screws. Again it was a major major PITA. I didn't have a ton of spare time to work on it, but my 1st order is to somehow mount a complete new carpeted panel of starboard over what's there to make adjusting amps or installing new ones down the road way easierLast edited by swatguy; 05-10-2016, 10:50 AM.

Swatguy,
I am glad to hear I am not the only one that ran into this issue. Here is where i am at as of last night...... excuse the hanging wires etc. as I only had enough time to get the board mounted with a few screws before it started raining.
