    Amp mounts 2008 210???

I am in the process of rewiring and remounting my amps under the port side compartment however what I thought would be the easiest part is now the most difficult. What type and size of fastener/ screw is best to use? I was trying to use a #8 1" Stainless but the backing material on the hull is proving to be a PITA. My amps are mounted on a 1/2" piece of starboard and it appears the backing on the hull allows for another 1/2" of material to screw into. It also seems that there is possibly a hardened plate of some type behind the fiberglass to keep you from drilling through the side of the boat. If anyone has any advise on what Nautique does in this area during the layup process it would a great bit of information to have.........

Use 1/4-20 SS bolts through the hull and top off with chrome acorn nuts that outta hold um.

That is certainly a good idea and one that might just start a new trend............

I would not test this theory. I would use a #10 x 3/4 and not worry about going deeper than the amp board.

That amp rack on the wall is a PITA to screw into. It glassed and gel'd over. I used self tapping screws. Again it was a major major PITA. I didn't have a ton of spare time to work on it, but my 1st order is to somehow mount a complete new carpeted panel of starboard over what's there to make adjusting amps or installing new ones down the road way easier

That is what I was trying to go with was a 1/4" depth beyond the amp boad into the backing material on the gunwale of the boat.

              Swatguy,
I am glad to hear I am not the only one that ran into this issue. Here is where i am at as of last night...... excuse the hanging wires etc. as I only had enough time to get the board mounted with a few screws before it started raining.

Talked with Nautique and they said the material is a cellulose material filled with resin. It is very very hard.

It's just a very strong layup of materials. I always pre-drill a pilot hole for the screws as it makes it much easier to run them in as well as less prone to break off the screw.

I did pre-drill them all and ended up using #12 hex head screws as the #8 stainless were just too soft even with pre-drilling. I am almost done and will post a few photos after I finish this evening.

While you're at it why not install this Roswell vent. Aquaintance of mine just did and it improved his sound a ton. I end up packing that area with gear so I would need to move it somewhere else , but just a thought.

I have a free air sub so that would kill its performance.
