80 is where I had the other amp and I thought that's about where it should be based on where the in boats and towers are set. 24 slope I thought was the right thing for a 10. It's ported. Yes speakers were disconnected.

yes one outting with the old crossfire and with that amp it sounded like it had a a more solid thump.

Im no pro and that's why I'm asking you guys your thoughts. I'm just looking for feedback on what I should do.

The amplifier is not your problem, unless you have a defective product (highly unlikely with a new JL Audio product from a legit dealer). Having enough power is not your problem. I can think of many issues. To start....
First, I would measure the individual resistance of both voice coils, make sure they are perfectly identical, and make sure they measure what they should, the DCR just a bit under the rated impedance.
Change from a 24 dB to 12 dB slope.
Raise the crossover frequency 10 to 20 Hz which automatically necessitates a gain readjustment.
The JL Audio amplifier crossover has clicks and is very frequency accurate. The Crossfire amplifier may not be. So you could have used very different LP frequencies from amp to amp.
The voltage method allows you to find the maximum pre-clipping output. The signal gain, whether 0 dB, - 5 dB, etc. determines the level....but maybe your sine wave test tone doesn't correspond to music material. Generally, if done correctly, the voltage method is the max threshold but by no means the final setting. If you have an ear for both low end distortion AND what is musical and balanced, nothing beats final tuning by ear.
You are going to need to trial and error. Hopefully you don't have another undiscovered issue. I've only scratched the surface. This is where a good authorized JL Audio dealer comes in. They have the audio knowledge and diagnostics experience.

This can be huge and many people dont realize this.

Also, did you have any bass boost going on with the cross-fire? This will make a narrow range more pronounced, giving the impression of "hitting harder".

David Thanks for the guidance. Your right JL tuned up nice. Followed what you suggested starting with check speaker and followed through. Sounds very good now. That's what I love about this forum, while my install is not as pretty as some professional installs it sounds great. Thanks again for everyone's help!!

the old amp board will get swapped out and reorganized at some point but I'm set t go enjoy it!! I'll take pointers if you have suggestions, but I was trying to keep amps as far away from each other as possible.

          leason learned...... Tuning is everything!!!!!

          Thanks again!!

            Never,
Glad we made some headway so you didn't discard the best amplifier for the job.
Yes, tuning IS everything. But we only applied a band-aid based on a little anticipation taken from your comments, and are a long way from a real professional tune. Again, that's a job for a supporting dealer.
