I see so many people do an awesome job upgrading their systems. I have no stereo, wiring, or really much handyman skills. What do you guys like me do? Take your boat to the dealer and have them do it? Have friends help you? Thanks for the advice.

I'm fairly handy, but I have to admit that I'm not comfortable with electricity and stereo wiring. I'm planning on changing the amps in my boat and I have no idea how to tune an amp or what all the adjustments on an amp even do so I will be taking it to a stereo shop and pay to have it done.2007 Malibu Wakesetter 23 LSV, 1995 Cobalt 200

Have a buddy come over and help you out. Great opportunity to learn something new. You always have this site to guide you as well. Stereo wiring is not all that difficult, which would be the majority of the charge at a shop. Tuning is a different story and probably worth the money to pay a professional.

Just don't let the smoke out.
There is a magical smoke contained within any amplifier that creates the music we love. If you let that escape, then you are doomed.
I enjoy working on my stereo stuff to some degree and am satisfied that it was done right. A Malibu I used to own was supposedly done by a professional shop, and they cut corners badly in some areas and made it overly complicated with relays and extra fuses in other areas. They apparently couldn't find any fuses for the 4 gauge wires, so they just trimmed down the bigger wire until it fit into an 8 gauge fuse holder. That was classic. I emailed the previous owner to recommend he go elsewhere next time. The subwoofer box sat right on the floor, and was moldy and soft about 8 inches off the floor. I was planning on replacing the sub, but once I put it in a solid box, it really pounded.
