I'm planning to upgrade the amps in my boat to 2 Wetsounds HTX6s, but then I saw that JL M600/6 amps are the same price so now I'm not sure which amp I should go with.
Personally I'd go with the WS amps since cost is the same between the two and WS offers a bit more power than that JL amp. If you were comparing their HD line of amps I'd sway towards JL though.
Neither is a bad choice. ive been running an HTX-6 since their release and have been real happy with it. The little bit of wattage difference may not translate into an audible difference in volume, but its always nice to have a little extra headroom.
To determine a real value comparison, you have to look at the entire package and whether the rather minor differences will impact you and your specific application.
Power difference? The JL Audio power is rated @ a 20 to 20 kHz bandwidth versus @ 1 kHz. And JL Audio gives you a maximum output voltage to set, which JL can still deliver with a lower 12.6 volt supply, evidence of their conservative power ratings. However, I suspect the Wetsounds still has an edge in power, although perhaps not enough of a difference to be substantially impactful from an audible standpoint.
Other considerations are the JL Audio ultra high switching speed of their Class D amplifiers, cast heat sinks versus extruded, detented crossover settings for frequency accuracy, and a flexible input section with a remote level control port.
I would own either if my application favored one over the other.
you would get an extra 100w if you run bridged with 2 speakers in series (so an extra 50w per speaker), not sure if the power will be as clean as the JL, but thats not an insignificant amount of power difference.
Never had any WS stuff but I just did JLs in our boat. HD and a M series. I couldn't be happier with the power and how clean they are. I'm no expert but I'm super stoked about them.
