2004 216 AIr Nautique Team Stereo

Were close to taking hold of a 2004 Air Nautique 216 Team, the previous owner didn't have the tower speakers installed. It has what I think is the Clarion XMD3 a Kicker amp and kicker subwoofer.

does anyone know the specs on this stereo equipment, which kicker amp it is, what size the sub is, and how it's hooked up, as in which of the (4) 6.5 in speakers are run from the amp vs the head unit and I'm particularly interested in anyone has added tower speakers to this setup with out adding an additional amp.

    thanks and appreciate the help

Kicker amps typically have the model number fairly visible, so take a look and even take a pick if you can. This may be easier then guessing the specs on what is likely not OEM. I want to say that back then, Clarion was the OEM amp choice and I dont even recall a woofer being offered. .

Thanks for the response. When I had a short opportunity to see the boat yesterday I took a few pics unfortunately the pic of the amp was not clear. It is however a Kicker amp, and I think I have deducted that it is the Kicker KX300.4 (http://www.planetnautique.com/Correc...als/Kicker.pdf). I t also has the Clarion XMD3 headunit. This boat did not come with tower speakers but it does have a "stock" subwoofer under the observer seat. I believe that is also kicker but I do not know what size.

Yeah it's a 350.4 I think. The sub takes two channels And the 4 rear cabin speakers are bridged on other two. To be honest, the system sucks if you know anything about audio.

The bow speakers are left on the head unit and sound like crap. The sub sounds like crap because it's not mounted in a box really. To get the stereo going you need to add another amp and get the sub in a different box but at this point in time your speakers are 12 years old too so better off to start from scratch if you have the $$.

Yea, I figured as much. In our older boat (99 Air) we replaced all other stock speakers with the Polk DB 6 1/2. Which worked well enough for us. I haven't been able to find much info out regarding the subwoofer except that it is a Kicker sub. Any ideas on what the size of the sub is. I wonder if the enclosure is well enough that I could reuse it?

          Thanks

I concur with what xlair said if it's anything like my 2003 210. Really you're better off starting from scratch at this point if you want any kind of efficient sound. They did not come from the factory back then with tower speakers that I can remember.

Figure out your budget and how you plan to use the system and there will be a wealth of knowledge already here or given to you.

Starting from scratch is a possibility, Just need to figure my budget. Are any of you guys still running the "Factory" Clarion XMD3 head unit?

I still have it, but wouldn't go as far to say I'm running it... It's only purpose in my system is to turn on the amps and EQ now. I use an iPod and connect to the EQ input for all my music. I still use the factory wired remote on the dash to turn the system on so I don't even look at the HU anymore unless it's to change the time. I have thought about replacing the remote with this and getting rid of the HU for good though. http://exileaudio.com/store/index.ph...oth/exmc1.html

                  Core,
I've read quite a bit about people adding EQ's. Truthfully if we elected to keep the XMD3 it's only cause I've read it does have a set of RCA inputs (Aux) that I could tap into with our iPhones/iPod's. With your EQ plumbed in do you connect the EQ to those Aux RCA's then your iPhone/iPod directly into the EQ? Are you currently powering any of your speakers off the head unit or are they all from amps?

                  Thanks

I have the XMD1 which doesn't have an input so I connect to the EQ (WS-420SQ). Really if you plan to start from scratch some sort of zone control is good to have so you can adjust the tower/sub/in-boats speakers to whatever you prefer which is why I have the WS-420SQ among others. Again this will all depend on your budget and how you plan to use the system. There are other ways to control zones as well.

Did they change the subwoofer enclosure on the 216 TE between 2004 and 2005. The enclosure on the boat that we'll have is more of a box and the sub faces toward the outside of the boat. Whereas i've seen 2005 models have more of a "bazooka tube style." Also did they go from Kicker to Polk?

Hi I own a 2004 216.. My rear speakers were run off the head unit and bow and front two speakers were powered by the amp. No idea why they wired it this way but very easy to change round. Only found this out when my kicker amp failed 3 years ago. This system was pretty poor even when new.

Yes they changed to Polk speakers and sub in 2005 with an improved sub box.
