    '08 210 speaker upgrade

Hey guys, I have a 08 SANTE 210 looking to get some speakers to replace the polk all around. What would be my best option for plug in play? I'm really not interested in upgrading amps and all that jazz. I have been looking at wetsounds....

Either JL Audio (MX650) or Wet Sounds (XS-65i) are good choices at reasonable price points. There is also a JL M650 and a WS XS-650 that have slightly higher ratings along with larger (at least in JL Audio's case) tweeters.

Look at the product specifications to determine which will best fit in your existing cut-outs.

I went with JL MX650's and really like them. For me personally I though the WS were a little too bright.

I just chucked my stock Polk in-boats (which were rattling and falling apart after 15 hours of use) for wetsounds XS-650's and I'm really happy with that choice. Polk's quality took a dump since my last boat. (2005 SAN).

Were these a direct replacement or did you have to do any modifications?

Yes. They are pretty much a direct replacement. No cutting necessary. The mounting screws may be in slightly different spots, but it's just cheap ABS plastic that you're mounting them to. In fact, I think the mounting surface (and how flimsy it is) may have contributed to the short lifespan of my speakers since none of the speakers which were mounted in the bow or under the helm had any problem. I took some extra measures with installing the new in-boats and fabricated some simple birch plywood backing rings behind the ABS panels and screwed the new speakers through the ABS into the birch. Solid as a rock now and no more rattling.
