Question about tower speakers wiring on a '08 SAN 230

    Hey,

I have a little question about the wiring of my 4 tower speakers (POLK MMC690) on my SAN 230 2008. In fact, I will replace the old and rust Clarion APX280M by a brand new JL Audio MHD600/4 (4 channels) but I don't know how this speakers are connected...

The 4 speakers only have a 4 wires harness (+ / - wires purple and + / - wires green) so I wonder if they're connected in series or in parallels ?? I should point out that the wiring of the tower speakers are stock.

If someone can help me, it would be great !

(Sorry if i'm not clear, I'm french and I don't often speak English !)

So you had a 2-channel amplifier with 2-conductors running up one side and 2-conductors running up the other side of the tower. That means the left two speakers are wired in parallel at the top of the tower and the same with the right two speakers. And this will present a 2-ohm load per channel to the amplifier.
Now you have a 4-channel amplifier. You cannot run parallel and simultaneously bridge into two channels. However, you can bridge the amplifier into two channels and series the left two speakers at the top of the tower and do the same on the right side.
The JL Audio MHD600/4 is unique in that it is strictly regulated. So it will deliver the identical 600 watts into any load whether that is 4 X 4-ohms, 4 X 2-ohms, Bridged 2 X 8-ohms, or Bridged 2 X 4-ohms. In this case I have given you instructions to run a bridged/series combination because it will allow you to maintain the existing 4-conductor tower harness and still obtain full power.
Btw, pay very close attention to the bridging instructions given in the JL Audio product manual, both the output and the input. This is crucial.

Will the existing wiring handle the extra wattage? You're going to want to upgrade the amp's power cabling as well.

        Thanks for your answers.

David ANALOG, if I understood correctly your advice, I have to reproduce the pattern 2 of schema below ? (I found this schema on this forum by the way, very useful ! )

Indeed, I have to be careful with the amp settings for the bridging instructions but the manual is quite explicit about this. I had the same amp on my previous boat (Mastercraft X2, yeah I know... Shame on me) who run 4 tower speakers too (stereo) and the sound was WOW. I hope it will be the same on my SAN.
