230 Best stereo system - Configuration

Hi, I am upgrading my stereo system on my 230, and would like to hear opinions of the best configuration. I bought 6 JL audio M650 speakers for the cockpit and bow, 1 JL Audio M10w5 subwoofer, 1 JL audio amp M800/v2 and 1 JL Audio amp M600/1. I still have the 2 polk factory speakers on the sidemount of the FCT5, and the 2 Roswell factory speakers on the tower. What are the best speakers to replace the 2 roswell speakers on the sidemount of the FCT5? What is the best way to power all speakers ? Should I buy another amp? Should I upgrade the 2 roswell speakers of the tower too (but i will lose my horn and lights over the cockpit)? Any suggestions? thanks in advance...

Tower Speakers: Both pair or 6.5". One being an HLCD a coaxial IIRC. Honestly, I would consider pulling both pair and replacing them with a single pair of speakers. What is you primary listening focus, wake range or surf/party cove?

Thanks MLA, my primary listening focus is surf/party cove. I don´t mind changing both pair, but I am not sure which speakers should I get. On the sidemounts of the FCT5 tower, the only speakers I have found with the appropriate mount are the wetsounds (icon 8 or rev 8), but I don´t know how good they are. Which tower speakers do you suggest?

My recommendation would be to skip the lower side-mount tower speakers and use the best available speakers for the upper position. One pair, properly powered, will get the job done better than diluting resources between four speakers and the power to drive them. Really don't care for the rear occupants being within the more on-axis radiation of the lower positioned speakers. Depending on what fits, one pair of Wetsounds Rev10, Rev8, or Icon8, or the JL Audio 880s.

I echo David on this one. Ditch the lowers, even if you do want two pair. At the same time, ditch the mix of coaxial and HLCDs. One pair of properly power 8" coax like the Wet Sounds Icon or JL will do well. Both offer direct mounting options as well as traditional tube clamps and swivel/disconnect. Both those speaker options would also work well bridged on 4 chnls of the 800/8

Sorry to hi jack your thread but i was also wondering about audio on my 230. I just bought 1 pair of Rev 8 wetsounds to replace stock polks that it comes with. I was thinking about buying another pair for the lower 2 speakers and buy the brackets wetsounds sells to run the Rev 8 down there. Do you guys think it would be a waste to run 4 Rev 8s?

more cone area is the better way to get more volume but you could grab rev10s for less money and likely have pretty close output to two pair of rev 8s with out the need for more amplifier channels

I run 4 rev8's on my 230, 2 up top and 2 at the lower swivel position. I got the the spinner mount which I do like having in the lower position because I can face those towards the beach without climbing up and around my bimini... Unfortunately the wetsounds swivel are not as good at the stock Nautique IMO because you need to grab a tool. I will also agree with what someone mentioned above that those speakers in that position can get real loud for people sitting in the back seat... I'd definitely recommend some separate zone control for the lowers vs uppers if you go that route.

What bimni do you run? Did you have to get Z5 bimini extenders from wetsounds to make it work? Do u have pics of boat 4 wetsounds rev8s? Dont know if ive ever seen one running uppers and lowers. Thanks

Nah, went full custom- im part ginger and i needed bigger coverage for the 120° temps we occasionally get out here. No extenders, since the bimini was built after the stereo- all 4 are on wetsounds swivel clamps though. Click image for larger version

ID:	500293 I switched to all JL on our 15(should have waited) and love them. I've had a full Wetsounds boat with 808 and rev 410s and prefer the full range sound of the JL. The JL isn't quite as loud but it's just cleaner sounding to me. 8.8 towers on HD600.4 per pair and m650 on m 600.6 in boats.

Hey Neverenough do you have a vent for subwoofer? If not how does it sound without one?
