Hi everyone, this is my first post here on PN, I've done a fair amount of reading on here over the past few months, but decided to join to post this thread. I'm working on my 83 sn2001, I'm looking for a little info on the simple wiring of the wired kenwood remotes.
Currently ive got a kenwood unit installed in the glovebox, an amp running 4 tower speakers and a sub, and 2 speakers running off the head unit. All of this is running on its own deep cycle battery, sparked by a switch. It works awesome for being anchored out and listening to tunes.
Anyway i I ordered two remotes (without the lcd display), 1 will be goin near the throttle for the driver to control and one near the rear for control near the swim platform. I believe the wiring is straight forward and the two would essentially be spliced to the stereo control wire, a power, a ground and an illumination wire. The illumination wire is where I'm hung up.
Since the the stereo system is totally separate from the rest of the boats wiring, I'm not 100% sure what my best option is for that wire. I don't have an on board charging system for the stereo, so I feel illuminating the 2 remotes the entire time the stereo is playing could be a waste of valuable power. On the other hand, if I attached the illumination in to the navigation lights, would the remote suck a lot of power off of my main battery or only "receive signal" to illuminate from that circuit?
as a last resort I guess i could add in a stereo illumination switch and handle it that way.
Thanks for for the help.
