For those interested in upgrading stock coaxial or going away from the 6 x 9 HCLDs’, the Kicker PS speakers fit the bill for me. I like the clearance of the factory enclosure and especially the overhead lights, but the speaker…not so much. My boat came with just 2 pods, so I was offered a pair here on the forum thanks to member Kris2wild. Also a big thanks to MLA for the speaker swap and a few other nice upgrades; onboard battery charger w/remote plug, IB sub, and compartment vent.
The replacement speaker 40PS692 is from the Kicker Powersports line, so it’s built to withstand the elements and at first glance you can tell it’s rugged built. The tweeters were designed to pierce a motorcycle helmet at road speed, so I felt open water would be a cinch. In the end I got more volume, better clarity, and the warmth of a coax...which in-boat and surf range listening was my goal. I would have to ask what the factory amp is delivering to the four pods, but these speakers must be efficient and I like the look!
