I am looking to upgrade the sound in my 98 SNOB. I currently have 6 speakers in the boat all Polk Audio. I have 2 6X9's mounted under the rear seat on the panel in front of the fuel tank and 4 - 6" speakers in the panels along each side of the seating area. The boat has a pioneer head unit but I would like to upgrade that to something w/bluetooth so whoever can use ther device to control the music (including me of course). My plan is to add a sub underneath the dash in the toe kick panel and a good strong amp to drive the system. I do not have a tower on the boat so tube speakers will not be option. Any advice on mounting the sub? I'd like to go with either a 10" or preferably a 12". Should be a simple system that will be adequate and not be disappointing. There has to be many threads on here that address. This topic in detail but anyone that can offer any advice would be appreciated.I am also planning to install a second battery with a cut off switch so I can choose which battery to use singly or both to be charged from alternator. Don't want to have to rely on one battery in case I am out mooring at the beach jamming and lose track of time on get stuck. Not sure where I'll put the second battery though. Probably somewhere near the factory location with the switch mounted underneath the helm. Maybe I can use one of the empty breakers in the dash panel instead?

Any of the modern head units should be quality enough (needs preamp outputs), the real heart would be the amp. Definitely defines the system. JL has a new 5 channel with great output to give a single amp system that rocks. They also make a nice looking sub box. Pretty pricey though. I have a pair of their 10" one in a sealed box under drivers panel and one in the walk through in an infinite baffle design. all kinds of options these days, but mostly you get what you pay for from the systems I have seen.2005 SV-211

12" woofer for sure. Its enclosure wont be really any larger than the same 10". Id suggest an enclosed woofer first, over IB. Do a custom enclosure thats built for the marine environment and is built to the fit the boat and woofer.
Are you replacing any/all of the in-boats?
Clarion M303 head unit
Kicker KXM800.5 will drive the in-boats and deliver 400W rms for a mild woofer. Marine built, quality amp and a good price.
