Marks, it wasn't for support it was more needed as a spaced to pull the some into the cabin a bit so the back of the sub would fit in the hole and not hit the outside wall.

So you're saying the JL sub needed more depth? Hmm, that's strange. It didn't in my 230. Maybe that's just a 210 thing. I mounted mine without the need to do a thing other than drill a couple new mounting holes. Looks like you have a 2013 210, not a 2014 230 like Jeff, right?
That's correct. And yes, it was my understanding the ring was needed for spacing, not support. I imagine it's a 210 thing because I think I remember a couple others needing it on their 210 as well.
