Winter Project Complete - Transom Stereo Remote on Dash

One of the projects that I wanted to tackle this winter was to make it easier for my wife and kids to control the stereo while they're driving the boat. At times the Linc Control ends up on the wrong screen when someone else is driving, and they're not as quick or comfortable to jump around screens to adjust the music. I purchased an extra transom remote and a y-adapter and added it to the dash, just left of the Start/Stop panel. I think everyone will have a much easier time changing music/volume now... I wanted to share this in case any other families have experienced any similar challenges (or maybe it's just my family?)... Here are a few project photos:

That is really a great idea. I've been thinking about fixing that same problem. It's not just your family. It's a universal problem for anyone who likes to crank it and wants the ability to kill it right away without having to go through the stupid LINC menus. The only thing that would make it better is to have a dial rather than a button you have to keep pushing.

Nice. Could that remote be used as a "head unit" as well or does it need to connect to another media player (LINC). I have a 96 SSN and I want to replace the clock with a head unit like this that will fit in that hole and then use a WetSounds zone controller/eq in the factory DIN opening. Meaning the only source I would have would be BlueTooth from iPhone (unless these things have an AM/FM tuner but that's not a huge deal either way). Just curious.

Can't you just get the WS420 with bluetooth function and you wont even need a second unit, correct? (I do not have this unit so I dont know all the functionalities)

Actually I do think that is correct. The problem is my wife and kids. If they get to messing with all the dials and EQ settings on the WetSounds piece (and they will) I'd be messing with it every time I get in the boat. I figured they can just use this type of piece and never have to touch the other stuff. Plus, this will give song skip and pause and stuff like that which the Wetsounds thingy won't do.

Very true.....some how the wife and kids will definitely mess up some knobs beyond belief, hahha

Go with the WS220BT. Same price as the WS-420BT but has 4 zones instead of EQ.

And yes, any of the Wet Sounds WS-xxx will work without a standalone head unit. Pair the WS-420SQ with either of their blue receivers or go with one of the other two BT units.

JL, Metra and a couple others have smaller round digital media centers that have BT. Kicker and MB Quart have larger round units that are more like a traditional head unit, but fit a gauge hole or old remote hole.

Ok cool, so do I not want the EQ ability? Never really messed with audio in a boat and figured it might be a good idea with all the ambient noise (have some background in car audio as well as home audio). So, the 220BT and one of the circular "controllers" for ease of use in a gauge pod will work? I don't have the boat yet, are these sizes all the same. Heck, I don't even know the size of the smaller clock gauge on my boat yet. Just want to get all this stuff bought so I can get working on it when I pick the boat up in April.

If you want zone volume control and worried about kids or others cranking the EQ settings, then you may not want the EQ feature of the 420SQ/BT. The 220 gives you a 4th zone but no EQ.

As to unwanted noise, an EQ will not cure noise, but could actually amplify the already present noise.

If i went with the WS-220, I would probably not go with a midal source like the Metra or JL since the 220 already has BT.

If you want AM/FM and USB, you could go with the likes of the Kicker KMC2 and any of the WS-xxx zone controllers.
