    2014 SAN 230 subwoofer options

Thinking about installing subwoofer and would like to hear what folks in a 230 have done. Have 2 REV 10s on tower and standard Nautique Polks throughout rest of Boat.

Currently working on the project as well myself. I "test" fit a rockford 12" sub in box and is fit by about an 1" also plan on venting under the passenger seat (several threads on here with people doing that to G and maybe one or 2 on 230's.....planning on changing some amps and I have rev10's as well and plan on doing something a little different to push those as well.. I will update you once I can get boat out of storage and everything installed! (picture to follow)

Thanks for advice! I also need the trash can...it's the little things that make a difference! Like the fact it's in storage space. Have you seen anything under cockpit area? Not sure I would like the look...

Depending how far back you can put the enclosure, you should be able (or your installer) to fabricate a cover panel out of whatever material you want to really make it look dang near a stock option (vinyl, carpet, sea deck, whatever you like).

Just worked with a shop here in my good friends 230 and they are doing a ported Treo 12" with a 2500 watt amp in the clam shell and keeping the trash can. They are pushing it as far to the front of the storage compartment as possible. He's also upgrading the cockpit speakers to Revo 6's along with a new amp on those. Should sound incredible when it's done.

I have a Treo 10 and JL HD 1200/1 for sell I pulled out of my 230. I moved batteries back and it leaves a little room for can but I pulled door for a vent with you need. If I did it again I'd cut a vent under port seat or something.

I had a custom box made for a JL W3 and attached the amp to it. We designed it so that we could pull it out and take it to the next boat, and also so we could keep the trash can.

If I did it over again I'd forget about storage space and the trash can and build a bigger box with a W7.

Don't forget to vent the fiberglass to let the sub out.

Most marine audio guys will tell you that Nautiques are about the most difficult wake boats to put subs in-or get bass out of, that is. I had 2 12" Memphis M5's in a sealed box put in my 230 with an Arc 2500.1 amp. It actually pounds SUPER hard. So hard that you can't stand to sit in the observer's seat for any length of time while it's cranked. The problem is getting the sound OUT of the port side. I made an appointment for "surgery" to open some areas up on April 13-15. I'll report back when it's finished. The futile effort to remove the trash door and putting in a metal mesh grill made as much difference as peeing in the ocean. If you want to hear the subs, you don't have any choice, but to open things up a lot IMO. My plan is to remove the upholstered panel in the walkway and set it aside while a new one gets made which will have a large opening with a black metal mesh. This way, I can go back to stock whenever I sell it. I'm also having the toe kick under the observer's seat opened too.

So the project is almost complete. The original plan was to 1.Open the walk through 2.Open under the observer's feet like most people do 3.Maybe open more areas. 4.Flush mount a Wetsounds 420SQ on the driver's side.

I stopped by the shop today to hear what it sounded like after only opening the walkway. All I could say was, "WHOA." It made a HUGE difference. No need to cut any more for now, that I can hear. It relieved the bass pressure considerably and I can tolerate sitting in the observer's seat much more now with it cranked. Most importantly, the bass SOUND now travels well throughout the cabin. Before today, I had to open the observer's seat to hear all the sound from the subs. It also felt like a bass port whenever I pulled a drink holder out of the side. So so so much better now.

The new opening was cut within about 3" of the edges of the area if that makes sense. They're making a whole new upholstered panel with 1/2" starboard backing and matching vinyl to replace the stock panel with the trash door. I'm also saving the fiberglass piece they cut out so the whole thing can go back to stock whenever I sell it if the buyer would rather have it stock with the trash can. I'll try to post pics when it's all finished if I can figure out how to post pics.

Hey I think I figured it out! Whoopie! Here is a progress pic of the opening and the aluminum mesh that I had powder coated in satin black. Everything is dusty on the boat right now. Stay tuned for the finished product.Click image for larger version
