    g21 cabin speakers upgrade...help please

no,,,,i can't go demo anything...i would like to upgrade the 6 cabin speakers in new to me g21...

i understand that stock speaker is polk dxi651. right?...it is $55 and yeah, at some point you get what you pay for...

i like the "warmth" of the polk stuff, i really do, i thought my friends polks in his 2010 230 were pretty **** good. i think they were polk mm651um with grill mounted no post tweeters. i could and maybe should get those but at $140 / pair thought i should consider other options...

    and get some opinions...

wetsounds got too many 6.5 speakers, so can't figure out,,,,which one would sound similar to the mm651um? a friend of mine has wetsounds in his axis and - god forbid i say this - they sound no better than the dxi651 i have now...so which wetsounds would be similar to mm651um and have the so called warmth of polk...

    wetsounds xs650 $165
    wetsounds xs65i $175

another friend is a fan boy of rockford fosgate,,,don't know which model to consider their...

and now nautique "world" is moving toward jl...urgg....

So for $175 or less a pair what you think!!!!????????

P.S. i understand you gotta pull seat back off and have christmas tree studs ready for reinstall...no worries...

They have two current models. The 65i series and new Revo-6 series. Although the 650 series are still available and worth talking about, they are technically retired. There are prefix and suffix around the 65i that denote color, LEDs and grill style, but the speakers are all the same 65i or 650. Similar with Revo-6, just color and grill styles but just one Revo-6 speaker.

    You want worth, Revo-6

Rockford, id go with the M262.

I have had the Polk UM's , JL MX's, Wetsounds , XS650's , and have spent a ton of hours in a boat with the JL M series . Hands down the JL M series was about the most well rounded speaker I have ever listened to. That think was excellent for a 6.5 speaker.

Sound is all personal preference. For me the Polk UM's are smooth , their highs are a little lacking as is their overall punch at higher volumes. It sounds great and well rounded , but just lacks the ummmf when you start to crank on them . The Wetsounds XS650 were about the loudest speaker I have had. These things cranked. Sound wise to me little on the brighter side( which I prefer) but from a pure volume standpoint they can't be beat. If you add a WS -420 you can dial in the 650's a bit more to take some of the brightness out and add some lows to it. The JL takes the cake for me as the best all around speaker. It 's like mixing the Wetsounds and the Polks. You get a super true mid and low range sound , coupled with some punch . They're also the most expensive tho. The MX series had those same characteristics and sound as the M but are just limited on wattage and tweeter size. Looks go to JL's with the sport grilles. As much as I love Wetsounds sound, the iron cross grille is awful in my opinion , so dated.

I cant say anything about the new Wetsounds Revo Series , but if I was looking to upgrade I would go Wetsounds or JL , they i the sound better and give you more umff in my opinion than the Polks. Also 2 of my polks crapped out in a short time frame, could be bad luck. , but to me comparing the guts of both Wetsounds and JL to my polks tgerecwas a clear difference in that aspect. At the clearance price right now for the XS650's I just don't think you'll beat the performance for price anywhere.

Your buddy's Axis most likely has the lower end Wetsounds 65 speaker in there. And yes sound wise it's right on par with your curent Polks. There really is only two series of speakers the 65 series and the 650 series( now aboit be updated to Revo). The letters just denote different grille styles and led options , Still same exact speaker in each series. If we were talking comparisons the 65 series lines up with your current and the XS650 series lines up against the UM's.

I know you know this so I am not sure if It's a typo in your post or if I am misreading it , but to be clear to SCott........... The 65i and the XS650 are two completely different speakers. They also sound completely different. The XS650 is 100watts RMS (can handle way more) and was their big boy speaker. At 167 a pair on closeout right now, I don't see how you can not go that route firvtger performance they will give you at the price. You won't come close to that anywhere else . The 65 series has an RMS of only 60 Watts and a smaller tweeter if I recall correctly. Still solid pricepoint speaker but no where near the performance level of the XS650.

Not only different, but one is current and the other is retired. Regardless of the prefix or suffix, a 65i is a 65i and a retired 650 is a 650. I think its those prefix and suffix that are confusing the OP. They just denote grill, color or LED, they dont charge the speaker.

I've had the Polk UM's in my boat for 9 years and always thought they sounded pretty good and they continue to work. I think they must have came up with a new model with built in led lights now, but at $140 pair on ebay for the old ones, that's not a bad price. I don't personally like "bright" speakers. That being said, the price on those wetsounds is amazing. I would probably get the wetsoundsd and use A WS-420 to "eq" them a little more to my taste. What are you planning for the tower speakers, I would want all the same brand throughout because it would bother me otherwise, plus there is something to be said about the "timbre" matching.

i don't really use the tower speakers much...so will leave the 2 pairs of roswell horns up there...$140 for the polks vs $165 for wetsounds sounds like a no brainer...but i know for sure i like the polks...

swatguy, do you think if i like the polk um's i would or WOULD NOT like the wetsounds 650s untweaked?

Hard to say on your personal preference, but for what it's worth no one has ever complained about the WS 650's sound. The have great midbass and really crank. Their tweeter is just little brighter than UM's. Even without an eq you can still adjust them by what you have your crossover freq set on your amp to adjust how it sounds just a bit. . Having owned both at $160-$140 I would go WS all day long. That's just me. Wetsounds also has some of the best customer service. Give them a buzz and talk to one of their reps on the phone and explain what concerns you have . They may say try them and if you don't like em send em back. That's how much they stand behind their product
