    Need Battery Advice

    Putting the finishing touches on my stereo and need some advice. I have a 2012 SANTE 210 with the standard dual battery set-up. I have a XS Power XP950 that I was going to use for the house battery. I began considered leaving the deep cycle house battery and securing the XP950 in front since there is room and running them parallel for a deeper battery reserve. My question is would this ultimately hurt me and cause the batteries to discharge at different intervals and eventually cause premature failure? The existing battery is just a standard Interstate Group 24. I have a shore charger with two banks so being wired parallel they both should see charge after every outing.

    Stereo is moderate:
    Factory Polk interior on Polk 5000.5
    Rev 10's on PPI 900.4
    12" Alpine Type-X on Soundstream 1000.1

    May also add an additional Alpine amp and run 3 channel to get front interiors (currently piggy backed to Polk amp) and send small amount to factory 10" just to get a little sound without cranking it so it starts rattling and distorting. Will swap in JL I/B if I run up on a good deal.

    I'm totally new to the boating scene and all this wiring stuff but I think you want a separate deep cycle for the audio/house setup and the cranking batt for just the engine. Use something like a Blue Sea Systems Add a Battery kit and run them independently but charge both with the engine. I guess it depends on how much "sandbar listening" you will do on the stereo but I'm guessing you would do that from time to time. Using this method will make sure your cranking batt remains charged to get you home once the stereo drains the juice of your deep cycle.

    Also, then add a 2-bank charger for the batteries back at the dock/garage.

    Someone else will chime in that knows more than me but this is the way I'm leaning.

    Cranking batt-whatever is in there now
    House/Stereo- Optima (or whatever) deep cycle
    Add a batt kit from blue sea
    2-bank charger for when the boat is out of the water

    Audio: JL 400/4 running (4) JL 6.5" and 600/1 running 12w6v3, some led lighting and the head unit

      Thanks for the response Mike. Just to clarify, I do have a dedicated cranking battery along with a house battery. I could not tell if you thought I was running only a single battery tasked with all. I'm just curious if I should consider wiring the XP950 parallel to the deep cycle house battery already present for a longer reserve when listening to music parked in a cove. I provide most of the music while everyone is floating so not rocking, but can see play times of 5+ hours.

        I would not. You really run the risk of draining to the point of not being able to start the boat that way. I would keep both batts separate.

        EDIT: listen to someone who knows more than me, I'm only going off the multiple hours of post reading and internet snooping that I did. This is what I am going to do, ****, might not even be good for all I know.

          Always good to have an isolated battery, so you are good there. I would not tire two unlike batteries together (unless you can isolate them when not in use) because it will shorten the life of both

            That is what I kind of figured. I am sure the XP950 will be able to handle what I throw at it, but since I had the room to keep both deep cycles for the house. I might see how it performs and if needed, buy another 950 and run them parallel.
