Official - 2018 Stereo is Backwards Compatible

Direct to me from Nautique, in writing..... : )

"The 2018 stereo will be backwards compatible for the 2016's, but it will not be available until the release of the 2018 model year, then the software will have to be written for the 2017 models, after that the 2016 software will be written. Once that is done we will make the stereo equipment and software availability for purchase."

Once the software is available to purchase , would there be any reason to update your software on 2016 or 2017 models if you don't upgrade your stereo. I don't know but just wondering if there would be a benefit in just upgrading the software.

Is this only in regards to upgrading of the JL head unit?

            Did they comment on cost?

I'm curious about whether this refers to the HU only?

Well I assume if you go this route, you'll have to swap the Head Unit, Transom-mounted Remote and XM Radio tuner. I bet even the cabling in the boat between the HU and Transom-mounted remote will have to be swapped out.

I am in for a swap to the JL Audio head unit. I will have to watch this thread for more details on cost and timing.

What advantage is there to doing this? I don't yet have my '17, so is there something about the stereo that I'm not going to like?

Many people complain about the Polk HU. I really don't have any complaintswith mine, but I don't use Blue Tooth. I still plug my IPod in and play music from play lists. It works great for me.

if y'all are not familiar the JL MM100s is a media source unit with no CD player and no internal amps. that means all speaker channels need to be connected to an amp.

i CAN CONFIRM jl cables for remotes are specific to the MM100s. the sirius XM tuner port has been standardized across head units for at least four years now. Theoretically, you can use your exist SXM module and radio code, should be a direct swap.

the MM100s is a bad *** head unit, I was the first or one of the first to install them on nautiques last spring. had one where the factory remote was on my 07 236. so far i've done three of them. the NMEA 2000 input is also an awesome feature to use if nautique stock stuff supports it. NMEA is becoming more requested on bigger boats for the ability to see depth and gps coordinates at any display.

there is NO video card, so it will not play video (too small anyways). the multi zone is a great feature. Click image for larger version

It would seem that unit would not fit in the awkward spot on a G series boat to the left of the steering wheel. Has anyone found a better spot?

What is the main problem with the JL head unit (I have a 2017)? What is better with the 2018 head unit? Much thanks.

The 2017 and older have a Polk head unit, and some people seem to repeatedly have problems with it. I think it is fine and have not had major problems with it. Unless the swap were super cheap, I am not going to make the switch.
