any radio antenna reception improvement ideas?

my 2014 g21 like my 2008 sante 210 both have crap radio reception. most of the time I listen to Pandora but wifey likes to listen to the radio. I can see on the g21 the antenna simply plugs in to radio goes about 2 feet and then is bolted to side of boat.

any simple suggestions of what people have done that works better without too much trouble?

You could try running a ground to the antenna since when in a vehicle the body grounds it. It was a problem on the early Corvettes. I have the same trouble but since I don't use the radio it did not matter

I was just looking at this again....Hard to understand why it is so bad, it looks like it is engineered to go into a bolt thru the rub rail. All the connections look good.

Like Gary S said.. there is not sufficient ground in a fiberglass boat. I had some luck with my Malibu using an amplified antenna for an RV and using the steering cable assembly as a ground. Put the antenna under the dash.

Not perfect but better than what it was from factory.

Look for a amplified am/fm antenna, I bought one for about 30 bucks and you can put it under the fiberglass. I will let you know how it works out when I finish the stereo.

I haven't tried the amplified antenna yet but download TuneIn Radio, it has pretty much every local station at least near me that you would ever want to listen to. Otherwise satellite seems like the only way to definitely eliminate static playing through your speakers, but I get tired of the repeats on Sirius just as fast as FM... even the new Beatles channel seems to be held hostage by Ringo judging by their song selection.

if they do it, you could always try and stream the radio station from your phone and then play it thru bluetooth that way. same station and probably better sound.

Finished the stereo, so far the amplified antenna works pretty good, may even work better than the truck antenna.

The other household items can cause electrical trash and hurt your radio signals. So is good to turn off the other item to get the signal without interpretation.
