    Quick dual battery setup question

Will adding a dual battery allow me to keep the stereo running when starting the boat.

I really hate that when I start the boat. The stereo restarts and takes 30sec or so to reconnect to Bluetooth.

I've considered adding a second battery but don't really need one but this would be a good reason to go through with it.

The right setup can completely isolate the house loads form the cranking battery. However, the first thing you need to do is make sure that the head unit's IGN turn-on trigger is not connected to the key switch. Regardless of dual or single battery, this terminal of the key switch is not hot in crank.

Not sure if it is linked to the key. I'll check. Do you think moving it off the key will solve the issue?

nope, I moved mine to an acc switch, and still reboots when starting. I need to change my perko to an isolator setup as well.

So is there a way to set it up so it automatically charges both batteries but cranking will be off the starter battery battery. Bilge pump and stereo would run off the deep cycle.

Moving the head unit turn-on from the key's ACC terminal to a rocker switch will stop the head unit from being turned off and then back on during cranking. However, the starter can also draw the system voltage low enough that some head units will just cycle off and then back on due to low voltage on the constant B+/MEM when cranking. This is where a setup with th blue sea dual circuit plus switch and ACR come in handy.

You need to get a battery Isolator then hook all stereo equipment to the 2nd battery. The first battery will do the boat electrical and the second will be just stereo both will charge when the engine is started.

Other people smarter than me can check me on this...I would add a 2nd battery and dual battery switch as it is always nice to have 2nd battery. Then I would run stereo related to the dual battery switch 2nd battery terminal. This should keep stereo related on all the time except when you turn off the battery switch. Both batteries will charge while in 1+2 position, and you don't need isolator or rocker switches or anything. Then you do as most people suggest and turn to 2nd battery only when parked with boat off, but your original problem of things turning off when you start the boat will go away.
