Ipod - Why doesnt it work.

Ok guys Im in Ipod **** right now. I am trying to hook up my ipod to my sony CDX-CAB10X deck. I read on an earlier thread on another site that it has to have the auxliary inputs which it does. I purchased a ipod cable that goes from the ipod headset jack to two rca. I plugged those rca's into the head unit and nothing. Does anyone have a wiring diagram of how to do this. I am completely lost.
Also I do not want to use the fm module.

Starting with the most basic suggestion - you're cycling through the play modes (Tuner, Cd, Aux) to the auxiliary mode? correct?

Yes but the Aux mode wont come up. If I hook up my xm unit then the aux comes up and the xm plays fine. Also I tried splitting the rca's so I can hook up the xm as well as the ipod. Then the iopd played but so was the xm at the same time.
